Many times clients are hesitant to add a crazy pattern into the mix because they are scared they will tire of it quickly.  My theory is the opposite, I think we tire much quicker of a sea of beige than one a punchy piece.  If you love the fabric, then chances are that’s the piece you’ll love the most.  I love solid color upholstery as much as the next person because it is timeless and versatile, but I’d love to find a place for a colorful settee.

More than a leather sofa, Doodle, designed by Front for Moroso, is like a creative map you can sit on. Of course, the shape is especially striking. Pulled flat, it’s actually a circular form, which then got folded and tucked into a shape that is appropriate for sitting. Simple genius, if you ask me. But the most special thing about Doodle is that it was inspired by the act/art of doodling – something most of us do absentmindedly. The Swedish design studio, Front, used actual doodles that were created by the team during design meetings. These absentminded drawings are what make up the pattern you see on this stylish leather couch. In a sense, it captures part of the creative mind and its subconscious process. Inspired by the interaction of the sea and cliff-side rocks, Laufen has created Palomba, a collection of bathroom fixtures characterized by natural and organic shapes. The result is a bathroom suite that has a smooth and sensual aesthetic even though the shapes themselves could be described as odd. The concept is similar to how constantly moving water has the ability to smooth out whatever it comes in contact with over time. The collection is comprised of eight washbasins and a series of accessories. With Palomba fixtures, there’s a lot of variety available when putting a bathroom space together, which encourages creative freedom. The organic shape of the tub is especially interesting. The metal gives them a glamorous industrial feel and the geometric shape feels modern. Inspired by the logic of pure mathematics, Etch is made up of thin, digitally etched, copper sheets. When lit, some glorious shadows are created through the shade’s pattern. Some fabulous candleholders were also inspired by this design.
