Interior Design Sense

I’m not usually into super-compact cars but there’s no denying the draw to this unique beauty. The EXO concept is the result of a challenge to designers Mark Beccaloni & Mauro Fragiotta to create a minimal and compact yet realistically usable urban vehicle. Designed from the outside in, the external geodesic shape is not only aesthetically captivating, but provides serious strength to the structure.

Amazing advancements have been made in 3D-printing technology, but designer Sebastian Bertram has taken it a step further, expanding the capabilities of 3D printing to large-scale 3D building. The Contour Crafter aims to keep up with demand for housing in urban areas with aconstruction method that combines industrial production and the technique of rapid prototyping. The robot “prints” contours of a building shell layer by layer using fast-drying concrete. Within just a couple of weeks, an entire estate could be produced.

I’ll do my best to not sound pornographic when describing this design, but the truth is that this is one sexy piece. The JOKI bench’s curves have a sensual aesthetic that is also functional as it contours the human body perfectly. The fluid shape was carefully planned so the modular pieces can be  recombined to align perfectly no matter which ends you combine.

This is the kind of thing I drooled over when I was a kid! TANTO is the perfect place to sit, read or let your mind drift away to fantasyland. More than just a bean bag chair, TANTO also makes a great huggable, lovable friend!

Designer: Conceptual Devices

The Rollin’ bike design focuses on two of important features helpful to the urban commuter: a stylish, super-lightweight body and a stationary lock integrated into the frame. The frame, which takes more inspiration from contemporary interior design than sporting design, is laser cut from a single sheet of aluminum that has been folded for added stability. The integrated lock is an easy and accessible way to ensure the bike will never go without protection from theft.

I love the concept of this lamp called Catch Memory Light! Until now we needed a dim-lit room, a light source and a creative imagination to make shadow-shapes on the wall. With this quirky lamp you can make illuminated shapes thanks to its sensor plate. The lamp mimics your ‘dog’ and ‘peacock eyes’ not as a dark shadow, but as an illuminant figure. Complex yet simple, it’s going on my wishlist for now.

Call it the vigilance committee or eco-functionality, but you have to hand it to the Cook Faucet for being a cool way to measure and keep a tab on how much water you consume. The buttons on the tap are divided into 100 ml, 500 ml and 1 liter and if you need some more, simply press the button for a wee bit longer or opt for the normal.

Cook Faucet is a 2012 iF Design Talents Winner.
