Algae is not your typical choice of inspiration when it comes to home accessories but industrial designer Christian Vivanco begs to differ. Obliterating conventional design principles, and expressing creative stimulus with his Algae Lamp, Vivanco has really raised the bar with this one. In case you were wondering if there is more to the alage connection then you can breathe a little easy since the pendant lamp is not actually made from seaweed (thank god) and in fact the material of the choice is acrylic. Due to its unique form factor, the lamp constantly gives an illusion of changing shapes when looked from different angles and remind you of seaweed and stunning coral reefs with its diverse soothing hues.

Says the designer:

“Its made of two acrylic surfaces, which embrace a compact fluorescent tube, hiding the entire electronic system.The use of two layers give you the chance to diffuse the intensity of the internal color, creating a delicate and cheerful atmosphere.”
