Interior Design Sense

Ruben D Gutierrez of Errez Design sent us photos of one of his latest projects. Jo and I are fans of his work (previous posts here and here) and were excited to see what he had taken on lately. This time it’s a modern beach house with a bit of a Hollywood Regency vibe. The colours and patterns are so fun and eye-catching. What a cool pad for parties!

Design Bureau Magazine, published in Chicago by ALARM Press, is just a little different from your usual design magazine. They don’t so much focus on one specific niche of design as many other ‘design’ publications tend to do,  but rather they cover design as a whole including a wide range of topics such as architecture, interior design, fashion, product design, graphic design, and more. Their mission statement sums it up best.

“Design Bureau delivers an honest and inspirational global dialogue on design from diverse disciplines and points of view. It gathers people like you-creative professionals, style arbiters and industry leaders-and connects you with a like-minded community of design enthusiasts across the world with one common idea: discovering great design and the people who make it happen.”

Eco-friendly, sustainable design, pop-up restaurant by Joost Bakker for the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival. The building and furniture are made from reclaimed or recycled materials, organic waste is composted and feeds the herbs, no mains electricity (it’s generated and fuelled by pure, unrefined canola oil), wall cladding and structural bracing is all-natural, formaldehyde-free plywood. (You can read more on Joost’s site). Raising grid like around the structure is Joost’s signature reo bar grid gardens. Beth generously shared these photos with us after her visit to the restaurant and I guarantee as great as these shots are her food shots will have you salivating.

The photo above totally reminded me of this post. I love this idea ALOT. It’s like art that’s alive and always changing. Guess it wouldn’t have the same effect up here in Ottawa. That box would be filled with snow in the winter. Maybe not so fun to look at every day as such a focal point. (Via Nuevo Estilo)

Schuchart/Dow is a talented firm of contractors based in Seattle. These folks have a deep aesthetic appreciation for design and craftsmanship and a respect for how the built environment intersects with the natural – all of which is definitively showcased in their portfolio. How could you not love a little pond outside your bedroom or bathroom? And there is something beautiful about a pool surrounded by grass rather than typical concrete/stone. Also have to point out how gorgeous the horse photograph is. (To note: the first home is designed by Olson Kundig Architects, the second by various people and the third by Suyama Peterson Deguchi).

Hip, cool and clever. Matt Woods again? No this time I’m talking about his design for Avido. Macramé on the ceiling (a Sarah Parkes piece), old brick walls balanced by warm timber counters, slashes of colour and an eclectic collection of classic furniture. Avido means greedy and I’m certainly eager to use some of these ideas in my own home. Photos by Will Reichelt.

Not to sound too negative , while the design feel here isn’t bad I find it all rather generic in that it plays to cliches . Also I don’t understand the Morrcan style bathroom , which has some nice elements btw , in that it bares no relation to the house ?

And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. I work as a interior designer in Stockholm. I saw that you are looking for photos of pets on furniture and I thought of my beautiful Pharaoh Hound “Cleo”. She is only 4 months old at the picture and the photographer and I spent many hours and a lot of meatballs trying to get a good shot… But finally we made it! The bedroom on the picture is designed by me and my Stockholm based interior design company Stargo.
