Unique Artistic Furniture by Riva1920 – Tra le Briccole di Venezia collection

14 Nov

unique-artistic-furniture-riva1920-1.jpg

Ultra-modern meets down-to-earth – it’s that unusual combination of conflicts which makes this artistic furniture by Riva1920 so unique. In fact, the collection is inspired by the city of Venice, where sea meets land and architecture. The Vice Versa coffee table by designer Thomas Herzog features rustic wood bases (salvaged from underwater and characteristically holey from the life aquatic) topped by clean-cut, transparent glass tops that scream “sophistication!” Circular or round, these great tables will find a home in unusual spaces. The Serena lamp designed by Erasmo Figini too is a meeting of the opposites, where the lamp’s base – made of the same weathered wood – is accented with stainless steel and Murano glass ornamented with flecks of gold. This unique artistic furniture is made in Italy. For more information visit Riva1920.

Brooklyn Bath Faucet by Watermark – industrial style widespread faucet

9 Nov

watermark-brooklyn-faucet-1.jpg

This industrial widespread faucet is a culmination of Brooklyn, New York-based Watermark Designs (and 30 years in the bath business under its belt) and the innovative Incorporated NY Architecture & Design. The aptly named Brooklyn bath faucet brings a bit of old detail into the modern environment, with its old-fashioned shape and warm, weathered finish. Inspired by mid-century gate valves, this faucet features a softly squared spout and large “wheel” handles to control temperature and water pressure. “The Brooklyn Collection is yet another example of Watermark’s uncanny ability to manufacture industrial artifacts that emulate the artisanal borough from which they hail,” says Watermark. This unique, historical-style brass faucet is available in 35 finishes, all authentic to reflect the artisanal aesthetic. For more information visit Watermark Designs.

Cinepolis Headquarters Office Lives on the Edge Of Another Building

5 Nov

Every once in a while we spot an out of the ordinary building that simply has to be shared with anyone passionate about architecture and design. This time around we found the Cinepolis Headquarters in Mexico, an office building that sits on top of a different building that acts as a base. But as you can see in the images below, saying the Cinepolis Headquarters rests on another building isn’t enough to describe this brilliant design. The office is apparently one of the largest cantilevered buildings in the world, and although it doesn’t look like the safest working environment, it will not tip over. The Cinepolis Headquarters would also make a great home, and if you sit on the required cash to build one you should definitely contact KMD Architects, which happen to be the creators of this eco-friendly establishment. The Y45 Kitchen Island By Italian Company Key

5 Nov

Italian Design Studio Key is carving a niche for themselves by manufacturing modern day kitchens that are styled with contemporary chutzpah. Take for instance their Y45 kitchen island which works wonderfully despite its unusual asymmetrical form factor. The kitchen island features a spacious sink, a well-designed work surface and a handy cook top. Since Key believes in emphasizing on both form and function, the Y45 kitchen island comes with a plenty of storage space and also features a stunning white faucet that draws your attention instantly. With the Y45 kitchen island, Key highlight the current kitchen architecture that is dominated by minimalism and mono-chromatic color palette.

Dominique Vorillon

4 Nov

Dear Dominique Vorillon,

You don’t know me but I have devoured every image in your portfolio and I’m sorry but it leaves me wanting … wanting more and more and more. I have a little reputation in the blogosphere of being a photographer tramp. I find ‘em, I love ‘em and I leave ‘em. Not you Dominique. I’m smitten. You’re a master of your work. No wonder interiors and architecture are your forte. Holy cow! The breadth of your portfolio. Is there a style you haven’t captured? I’ll go now. I know I can get a little insistent, a little embarrassing. I’ll just be lurking in the background, just loving your work.

Spectacular Pool Home Offering a Diversity of Perspectives: DPR House

24 Oct

This fascinating home was designed by MCK Architects and meets our idea of a “surprise home”. We have to say that its facade first led us to believe this was a house exhibiting a traditional interior design, rather than a modern one. But a few steps around its entrance to the left or right are enough to demonstrate just how diverse this residence is. Each angle of sight is different and unexpected. Consisting of  asymmetrical volumes, it is hard to say how long it took for its inhabitants to really get to know their crib. And how great it must be to get familiar with every detail that it has to offer! The interior design features even more twisted visual effects (in a good way, of course). Everything spells out contemporary and except for the rectangular tables, nothing seems to have a definite shape. How’s this for an original display of modern living?

World’s Largest and Most Expensive Family Home Completed

15 Oct

antilia house, fake green houses, greenwashing, greenwashed architecture, green washing, perkins + will, mumbai, india, Hirsch Bedner Associates, world's largest residence, world's largest family home, world's largest house

The “Greenest of All Buildings” was recently completed in Mumbai, India and we couldn’t be more appalled. The Antilia house which unveiled its first renderings just over two-years ago has become a frightening reality, egregiously boasting 27 stories at 568 feet high, with a total area of over 398,000 square feet of living space. What at first glimpse looks and sounds like a typical skyscraper is far from it – the Antilla is in fact a $1 billion family home built for India’s richest man (and Forbes’ fourth richest man) Mukesh Ambani, his wife, and three children. Constructed within a country estimated to have one-third of the world’s poorest population, the Antilia truly exemplifies the disease of excessive consumption, extreme wastefulness, and unsustainable living that is permeating today’s society.
