Private Circular Bookcase, Or How to Be Literally Surrounded by Knowledge

I’m sure all of you out there enjoy having books around. However, the harder part may be how to fit them in your place. Unusual shelves, a bookcase, or even the floor, if you are a student leaving with rent- these are your basic options. We found this really interesting way of arranging your books while checking out some pictures of timber houses here.  You are looking at a beautiful circular system of shelves made entirely out of wood. I myself am crazy about books and would love to wake up in the morning and be surrounded by them, literally. We don’t know if this is what the designer of this place had in mind when building it, however we find it to be an inspirational idea and we hope you will enjoy it.

Ultra Modern Tafoni Home is a Floating Residence for San Francisco

16 Jan

tafoni, sausalito, ca, california

If you’re in the market for a floating home but not diggin’ the dark, cramped image that the word “houseboat” typically brings to mind, we think the Tafoni Floating Home will really “sway” you (get it – because boats rock back and forth? Okay nevermind.). Designed by Joanna Borek-Clement with the San Francisco Bay Area’s on-the-water community in mind, this spacious and modern version of the houseboat is so beautiful that it’s enough to make any landlubber want to get his or her sealegs.

Perez, Pets and Paintings

10 Jan

Picture 28

I am a Perez Hilton reader, guilty as charged.  Who doesn’t want to know about Lindsay Lohan’s (fondly dubbed “La Loca” or “Lindsanity” by Perez) latest breakdown or which celebs were spotted this week courtside at the Lakers game?  Whether or not you are interested in all of the celebrity gossip, you have to check out the animal portraiture that I discovered on Perez.  Animal artist Sam Charles Hodgson painted a portrait back in August of Perez’s adorable labordoodle, Teddy, and I have been meaning to share these remarkable works of art with MG.

This is not your traditional animal artwork.  They are so beautiful and tasteful, and not at all what animal artwork too often winds up being…downright creepy.  Rather, Hodgson’s contemporary take infuses the work with bright colors and an almost pop-art quality.  As the owner of two beloved dogs, I would love to have my “girls” immortalized by Sam Charles Hodgson! Check out some of Hodgson’s work below and let me know what you think.

For those of you who have a huge DVDs/books collection today we want to present an interesting idea that was implemented by Johan from Sweden. He used affrodable pieces of IKEA LACK components to build the greatest home theater storage I’ve ever saw until now. Looks like it was a beautiful finished DIY project. Beautiful Bathroom Sink with a Looped Towel Rail

17 Apr

I love simple and practical ideas like this ingenious bathroom sink from Sanindusa. Made with 100 percent recycled material, the gently curving line of the sink terminates in a convenient looped towel rail. As you can see from the pictures this sink is quite small, and it works wonderfully in a small bathroom. The only bad things about this sink is that I can’t see where I would keep the soap, but I have to admit that anyway is a beautiful designed idea.

Grohe LED Light – new Nova light programmable to change through color spectrum

4 Apr

grohe-nova-light.jpg

A smart LED light perfect for an ultra-modern setting – this is the Nova Light from Grohe. Simply geometric shapes are emphasised; the switch itself is an appealing circle set within the rectangular panel. It demands attention: the circle glows with an eye-catching LED light. Cleverly, this technology means that the light can be set at any solid color you prefer – red, green, blue, yellow or anything in between. Or, to add a beautiful, futuristic twist you can set the LED light to change through the whole color spectrum. The Nova Light can be programmed to switch on or off at any time. It’s finished in Grohe Starlight chrome, and can be mounted portrait or landscape. A stunning lighting solution, the Nova Light is new from Grohe.

Sarah Turner’s beautiful ReDesign lighting collection imaginatively recycles plastic water bottles into stunning lampshades. With some clever cutting Sarah Turner has mastered the art of turning waste drinks bottles into decorative shapes, which form the basis of her beautiful ceiling, table and floor lamps. We loved MIO’s Flat Pack Origami table at first sight and couldn’t wait to see what would come next from this Philly fave.  Luckily for us, Brothers Isaac and Jaime Salm do not disappoint.  Just in time for the long dog days of summer, the duo has teamed with Target to launch a new line of beautiful, sustainable, and affordable eco-outdoor goodies, like the herb planter pots made from recycled paper (above), all for under $100.

Second prize in a bridge competition in Gothenburg, Sweden, by visiondivision

21 Mar

Swedish architects visiondivision won the second prize on a bridge competition in Sweden a couple of years ago with their Bird Bridge. A bit old, yet cool (if someone knows who won the first prize, please let us know).

The site is located in a beautiful untouched forest with old leaf trees in a small rift with a stream at the bottom. This patch of forest lies between The Botanical Gardens and Sahlgrenska, the major hospital in Gothenburg. The bridge would appear as a white hovering line made in plexiglass that slightly reflects the beautiful landscape, which is carried by the tree pillars that disappears in the surrounding nature.

More images after the break.

The Mansion: Picture perfect to the core

13 Mar

the mansion

If you were going around the planet looking for one of the most picture perfect home, it would be hard to find something far better than the Mansion designed by Harrison Verma. Located in Hampstead, London, the 16,000 square ft home is so beautiful from the front that it seems almost like a playhouse designed for kids. With 8 lavish bedrooms, sweeping interiors, extravagant use of glass and white stone and a contemporary minimalist design to the core, the Mansion looks like a dream hub. The exclusive bar, a great kitchen, a stunning patio, an indoor pool and an atmosphere that allows you to take a dip in luxury, this home forces you to wonder, “What recession?”. – via
