An iconic building in the Australian built vernacular. The shearer’s quarters. A home away from home for the itinerant workers who trekked from one sheep farm to the next. This new building sits beside an existing historical home where the original shearer’s shed stood before fire destroyed it. When it came time to rebuild the owners turned to John Wardle Architects to recreate and reinterpret the space to accommodate workers, family and friends. Galvanised iron externally, timber internally, the bedrooms lined with old apple crates. This modern twist on the traditional shear’s shed won the The Australian House of the Year at the Houses Awards. The Shearer’s Quarters, Tasmania.

Back in May I featured the home of interior designer from Poland Lucyna Kolodziejska. She emailed with some photos of a design project of hers that I adore. Some details: this flat I have designed for my client Edyta i Rafal. They have also 1 year old kid – Borys. I designed this about 1,5 year ago. Two bathrooms – one with shower, 3 bedrooms and living room with kitchen. All in black and white. Mirror in master bedroom is my project. The posters is from polish designers. Big MK it is decorating elements, doesn’t mean anything. In bathroom with shower we have photo from Polish seaside. Old 100 year old table in dining with Masters by Kartell – i like these chairs. Spring has sprung! Besides getting ready for the beautiful weather, we’ve been busy asking our favorite Dallas showrooms about the top fabric trends for spring. This is what they said is big for 2012:

1. Ethnic/ Tribal Prints
Spring is a time to be playful, and these fun designs have been almost impossible to keep in stock.

2. Children’s Rooms
Grownups shouldn’t have all the fun- infants through teens are all enjoying the new designs this spring, especially the new line from Lulu DK that has been flying out of the Schumacher showroom.

3. Outdoor
Not too surprising is the popularity of outdoor fabrics.  Although we love spending time in our homes, there’s nothing like sprucing up a patio or porch for the upcoming warm weather!

4. Orange and Blue
Every season has its perfect palette, and this year, showrooms have noticed the popularity of bright orange and blue hues. Seen in almost every popular line from Modern Colors to Alexa Hampton, these colors are everywhere!

5. Colored Leather
One unexpected trend is the popularity of colored leather. Used for all types of spaces from bedrooms to offices to living rooms, this fabric is a fun little surprise, especially in bold colors.
