Nursery Conversion

6 Sep

Many may recall this image of a fun and modern nursery that was featured in the late Domino magazine.  I have heard from so many people (bloggers and clients alike) – how much they love it and how great the striped ceiling is.  (So inspirational, that I used it as a concept for a nursery project that I did for a client.)

One thing I often find when designing nurseries for clients is that they want room to grow, for the nursery to transition well once the baby outgrows the crib.  (Thanks to the crib conversions out there – an easy solution!) I thought it was neat to see the same nursery above photographed with the conversion of the bed and full of toddler’s toys – transitioning to a very practical room.

Same room, crib conversion bed, lots of toys!

And an inspiration for a modern nursery concept board I provided for a client.

Look Book featured on The Decorating Diva.

For furnishings such as these, check out both Modern Nursery and Oeuf NYC. I have been using both resources lately for current nursery projects I am working on and espeially love the Oeuf cribs and beds.

Kitty and Puppy Bambu Chillin

23 Aug

A couple of beds for your little one. Little one as in little furry fellow or ma’am, animals under 25lbs and inside the tiny customer dimensions. What’s inside this post are two beds, both of them designed by Corey Drew of Pet Lounge Studios. One is called the Bambu Hammock, the other is called the Bambu Lounger. Both are made with solid bamboo and both are made for your soon-to-be completely comfortable sleeping pet animal.

The Bambu Lounger is inspired by Scandinavian design, having a handmade bamboo base and a memory-foam filled mattress. Even I don’t have one of those. This kitty is an important kitty.

5 Tips to Consider When Hiring a Housekeeping Service

19 Aug

The decision to hire a housekeeping or maid service is a personal one that has its pros and cons.  For some, the idea of strangers entering your home and cleaning is an invasion of privacy.  While others would argue that the time, energy, and peace of mind saved by having a cleaning service is well worth the alternative.  Here are 5 tips to consider when hiring a housekeeping service to get you off the fence of decision making.

Choose a service that has been referred: Choosing a cleaning service is like choosing a doctor.  If you are concerned about the safety of your home and belongings, find reputable housekeeping services that have references for you to contact.  Consider asking your neighbors, coworkers, or family members whom they would recommend.  Similarly to a doctor, keep researching until you are comfortable with the information you gather.

2.) Interview the service on the phone first: Most cleaning services will come out and walk through your home for a free consultation and estimate of services. Before they get to this step, ask questions over the phone that is important to you.  They should include: *What type of products do they use? Do they change cleaning cloths between homes? *Are they licensed and bonded in case of damage or theft to your home. *How long have they been in business? *What referrals do they have for you to call?

The pros for hiring an individual is the personalized attention to detail they will offer.  Individuals may offer more services such as folding clothes, and making up beds, beyond the usual cleaning.  The cons of hiring an individual include, if they become ill; there isn’t a back-up team to take their place.  Insurance and bonding amounts may not be as high for an individual.  Therefore if you had an incident in your home, they may not be covered.

The pros of hiring a service is they have a team of service people, so the likelihood of a cancellation is minimal.  A team of people working on your home at once may make them more thorough.  The cons could include, the personalized attention may be reduced, and the time period they spend at each individual home may be less.

Walk through your home with the cleaning representative: Once you’ve decided to have the housekeeping service/or individual come to your home, remember these tips as you walk through your home: *Before they arrive, keep your home in the “usual” state it would be in before a cleaning job would have normally been done.  Many people make the mistake of cleaning up the home before the walk through.  This is defeating the purpose because the service will quote you a price based on the amount of work, square footage of home, and how long you need them to stay. The staff will be hired based off of this meeting, and the time estimate will be drastically different than what you really need.

5.) Decide if this is right for your family: Go with your instincts when hiring a housekeeping service. Ask questions that will settle your concerns and don’t be afraid to be honest and candid.  Your home, family and belongings should feel safe when in the hands of a housekeeping service.   If you later find yourself despising to clean, and spend more time cleaning than enjoying a quality lifestyle, then a housekeeping service may be for you.  While if you enjoy cleaning, and can’t stand the idea of people in your home as they clean – you probably want to keep your current cleaning regime as is.

Think about these tips if you are considering on hiring help to clean your home.  At the end of the day, you need to be happy and comfortable with your home.  Whether that means hiring a housekeeping service will depend on you and your family. Enjoy your time and home, that’s what life is all about!

BSide Wooden Bed Has No Need of a Mattress

13 Aug

A bed without a mattress you ask? Well, we’ve seen stranger things here at Furniture Fashion, so why not try a bed that requires absolutely no mattress for a change? The BSide wooden bed in the images below comes with a modern design, which will certainly help it stand out among other beds and thus making it a true piece de resistance in your bedroom. The BSide is a bed made entirely out of wood bent to vapor and a polymeric gel covered by black leather replaces the mattress but is said to offer an equal performance. The central band is actually made of RGB LED lights and acts as a reading lamp so your BSide bed will offer everything you need for a good night sleep. Via Behance

Quilted Oyster Bed From NEST Italia

2 Aug

The Oyster Bed by Giuseppe Viganò for NEST Italia is one the most inviting beds I have come across and it is just what a forlorn soul needs to melt their troubles away. Reinventing the classic quilted bed form, the Viganò creation emanates an aura of unabashed decadence and opulence and promotes fine living. The world would really be your oyster with the Oyster Bed, don’t you think?

I come across so many beds in my research that the rectangle seems a permanent fixture in my mind. A circular platform bed like the one shown here provides a different tweak in a bedroom by breaking away from the geometric norms associated with most bedroom furniture. Find the product: here.

Sheets With Complementary Thrown in Clothes

9 Apr

Snurk Bedding came up with an unconventional and bold bedding collection. White Laundry series are seemingly normal white sheets, but at a closer look an extra treat is revealed. Casually throwing clothing items on beds is very common. However, in the case of Snurk Bedding this led to a fun design idea. The collection features a total of five different clothing products: a robe, a shirt, a bra, a pair of socks and a thong. The sets are 100% cotton which means durability and quality. We imagine comfort was not left behind either. By the way, “snurk” is Dutch for “snoring”. We don’t know how many of our readers would go for such a crazy design, but the idea is definitely worth showing off.-via Stilsucht
