Home Alone No More!

Home Alone No More!

now…

Well, looks like the McCallister family is finally moving out! ‘ Ok, this might not be the actual owners, but this Winnetka, IL home was forever made famous by its depiction in 1990’s Home Alone. ‘ As any Kevin McCallister fan knows, a lot of sh*t went down in this house, so owning this home is truly owning a piece of movie history.

Home Alone No More!

The late, great producer/director John Hughes set many films in his hometown of Chicago, including Home Alone, Ferris Buellers’ Day Off, Pretty In Pink and The Breakfast Club. As a lifelong Chicago resident myself, I might be a little biased but I must say that Chicago is one of the best places to shoot a film, especially when architecture is involved. ‘ Whenever anyone mentioned “the Ferris Bueller House,” you know exactly what they are referring to, right? ‘ Cameron’s sterile, mausoleum-like glass box of a home. ‘ And now for $2.4 million, you can be the proud owner of the “Home Alone House.” ‘ While the home doesn’t come complete with overgrowing green and red Christmas decorations and a house full of frazzled relatives, it does boast 4 en suite bedrooms, a screened-in porch, and a coveted east Winnetka address. ‘ If you moved in, I’d be happy to redecorate for you and throw a little housewarming party!

Playing For a Practical Design Cause: Biblioteca Tetris [Video]

11 Apr

http://interiordesignsense.com/tag//

Guillermo Cameron Mac Lean from Argentina recently sent us this fun and playful bookcase design that won us over. You are probably all familiar with Tetris, a game with millions of fans throughout the world. We featured quite a few Tetris inspired projects on Freshome and yet we could never get tired of seeing designs that remind us of playing it. As you can see in the movie below, Guillermo slowly builds his bookcase using various shaped Tetris blocks. As opposed to how things occur in the electronic game, the rows don’t collapse at the end, but are as steady as the small wheels below allow the bookcase to be. The film is very captivating and well made and the result- Biblioteca Tetris- absolutely spectacular. Have a look!

When it rains…

7 May

My apologies for the lack of posting on this here blog.  I’ve been busy, with a capitol B.  I just ending teaching a class on Green Interiors at CSULB Monday, only to turn around and teach the first night of a somewhat similar course at CSUF Wednesday.  And I only had 6 days notice I would be teaching that class before it started!

My sustainable design blog – The InterioREvolution – is getting more and more fun every day -  and more and more work too.  Right now I’m running a series of posts reviewing different no-VOC paints.  Quite the education so far.

I’ve also been lucky enough to be asked to contribute to HomePortfolio.com, which is a large site devoted to interior design.  I am currently contributing blog posts and am in the midst of writing my first full article for the site on choosing carpet.  Again, quite the education.

I’m focusing more and more on teaching, writing, speaking and consulting, and getting away from doing as many full design projects as I once did.  There are so many great designers out there who need the work, and I feel that training others to design sustainably should be my bigger focus for now.  It’s a bit of a leap of faith, but so far, it’s been going wonderfully.

As a side note, my thoughts go out to all the families in middle Tennessee who have lost so much to the terrible flooding of the last week.  I spent all my childhood summers there, staying with my grandparents and learning the joys of catfish and hush puppies.  I will always hold that part of the world dear, and I hope the good people there will recover soon.

I’ll fill you in more on what Path Design is up to soon.  Meanwhile, take care, and in the words of my hero Cameron Sinclair, “Let’s make the world a better place”.
