Hotel Alexandra

19 May

A big thanks to one of our readers, Kris from Vancouver, who just got back froma month in Europe (hate you!). Kris spent a bit of time in Copenhagen and stayed at this incredible hotel called Hotel Alexandra. It’s filled with classic Danish furniture and is an absolute dream for anyone out there like me who has a soft spot for anything Danish. I’m talking about the Pelican chair by Finn Juhl, Arne Jacobsen – clocks, Swan + Egg chair, Hans Wegner Teddy Bear chair, Børge Mogensen chairs, a Verner Panton suite…and SWEET vintage posters!

Now that is how to use art. Massive, masculine, impressive office — omg, those chairs! that desk! And then cheerful, expressive art you might find in a funky barbershop. It’s always exciting to see a small space turned into a credible kitchen — anyone can turn a huge space into a lovely reception room, but fitting a welcoming and working kitchen in an 8×6 area takes something extra. I wish the oh-so-serious lounge had sported the wallpaper from the stairway! Did the fish tank end up as just a very expensive punctuation of hallway? Because that would be sad. It was lovely. And expensive.

I’ll admit I’m never impressed to see deco items being moved about. The extent of the budget available is obvious — get in a second vase and bunch of flowers for your photo shoot!

2013 Luxury Loungers from Leolux: Darius and Bolea

5 May

Darius is the new hotseat from Leolux, and a modern throne if ever we’ve seen one. This design by Jan Armgardt envelops you with its high back, integrated armrest and sweetly sunken seat, all part of a single, solid mass. The chair’s smooth lines lead your eye down the reclined back and along its curving body, ending at the corners, down-turned and touching the floor. Sit back and let your body sway in the subtly springy frame, finished in polished chrome. And the upholstery fits like a glove – tailored to perfection. This bold chair is accompanied by a matching ottoman to pamper your feet.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Leolux’s Bolea lounger is low and luxurious, with its comfy curves and inviting frame down on the ground. This design by Riccardo Belli cocoons you in its cosy cushions, but contemporary style doesn’t play second fiddle to comfort. This modern design comes in the Lungo model, an elongated version made for lounging, and the Ovo – a compact, spherical design inspired by its namesake, the egg. These playful silhouettes come clad in a range of colorful and interchangeable upholstery options.

Check out these new chairs by visiting Leolux.
