Table Layer by Gallotti & Radice

5 Aug

Here’s a coffee table that’s unlike any other – the unusual Table Layer by Gallotti & Radice. The table base is made of circular and stackable wooden parts. The transparent glass top sits right on the circular wood base pieces which come in different colors and finishes, like natural ash, wenge stained or white, black, saffron yellow, sand or chestnut lacquer. Depending on how many base pieces you choose, the table will be different heights. This is perfect for when temporary adjustments are necessary, or if you are looking for a coffee table in a non standard height. The design is very contemporary and unique – making for an interesting and stylish addition to your modern furniture or decor scheme. Find out more at Gallottti & Radice.

Again & Again’s NEW Dallas Location!

14 Jul

This past weekend, one of my absolute favorite furniture consignment shops,’ Again & Again,’ opened a new, improved, and HUGE location near the Dallas design district. ‘ Leslie Pritchard continues to expand her stores around the Dallas area, and I could not be happier that she is doing so! ‘ This lady is building a vintage furniture empire here…

Honestly, I wanted to take home everything with me, but didn’t think my fiancee would appreciate that so instead I snapped a few photos to share with you. Take a look at some of these amazing pieces!

I was really digging this tufted leather chair-very unique!

Again & Agains NEW Dallas Location!

Leslie has a similar pair of chairs in her own home- sadly, these ones below are sold!

Again & Agains NEW Dallas Location!

I stumbled upon these amazing acrylic bar stools that would look perfect with a reupholstered seat-

And speaking of acrylic, I found a coffee table that I almost died over (sadly it’s another one of those pieces that was already spoken for). ‘ The person who has this on hold, is one lucky little shopper-

You can never go wrong with a chrome shelf unit-

I fell in love with this bold pink lacquered buffet. ‘ Now whose home can I squeeze this gem in?

If you are worried your dining room doesn’t have enough personality, I have the table for you-

A pair of sculptural table lamps-

And finally, an interesting acrylic pedestal and two funky bamboo stools-

I could go on and on about the rest of the treasures I found but I don’t want to spoil it for you! There is so much to see at their new location- plan to stay at least an hour like I did Again & Agains NEW Dallas Location!

On another note, if you find a piece you fall in love with but it is not quite the color or fabric you want, Again & Again will refinish, reupholster, and even rebuild the piece to create exactly what you are looking for. ‘ They just finished refinishing a console for one of my clients as well as building new legs for another client’s mirrored console.

Aside from refinishing, they also build custom furniture. The possibilities are endless!

Artistic Garden Furniture Set Radici by Celato

22 Jun

Imagine your very own secret garden – made possible with Celato’s Radici, a garden furniture set designed to be overrun by climbing plants, by De Castelli. Overrun by vines and plants or not, the garden set is quite artistic and includes many items like a gazebo, table, chairs, bench, barstool, candle holder and coffee table. But when overrun by plants, the effect is quite magical. The idea behind Radici furniture, which translates to ‘Roots’ in English, is to reinforce the connection between man and nature by making it feel like you are literally sitting among the plants and greenery; sitting with nature herself. Check out Celato’s De Castelli brand for more information.

Long weekend at the cottage

22 May

This is a long weekend here in Canada, to celebrate the Queen’s birthday. It’s the biggest party weekend of the year, as it’s the first long weekend of summer and everyone attends cottage parties and BBQ’s, as we Canadians love to enjoy what little summer we have! Yesterday was the first day the whole family got to spend time at my little sister’s cottage together. Jen and her husband Dave bought their cottage this past fall and have had a TON of work done to it and the major work was finally completed a few days ago. We spent most of the day getting beds set up, hanging curtains and artwork, stocking the kitchen and all that fun stuff. There are a bunch of little things that still need to be done but it is AMAZING how much work we did (while watching 3 small children), while still being able to enjoy a bit of the gorgeous weather we had and go for a couple of pontoon boat rides. So instead of my typical blog favs post, I thought I’d share some before and after photos of the cottage (there are more, particularly before photos in a Flickr set here).

Here is the cute facade (the porch stairs have since been rebuilt).

Now the interior was SO dark and dingy, with nasty industrial carpeting everywhere and icky varathaned round board all over the walls. I begged and pleaded with them to have all the walls painted white and they listened thank gawd. Here are a couple before shots of the kitchen area:

…here is the kitchen removed and carpeting torn out, and the adjacent living room…

You’ll have to see the transformation after the jump. :-)

Here is the living room and kitchen now. Everything is white and bright, and a new laminate floor makes a HUGE difference. The living room is furnished with an old Ikea sofa from my parent’s house, a floor lamp from me, on old coffee table my parent’s bought at Ikea 30 years ago and other hand me downs. The kitchen is all Ikea. The cabinets still need the hardware installed, some bar stools, a new ceiling fan, hopefully a framed pegboard on the wall to hang utensils etc.

Paris’ Pad

1 May

Making the rounds of real estate and design blogs last week, was the announcement that Paris Hilton’s former house is available for rent. ‘ The house, located on Kings Road in West Hollywood sold in 2007 for $3.8 million and is currently available to rent for $20,000 a month. The listing agent is Mauricio Umansky, husband of Paris’ aunt and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards.

In case you missed the visuals, here goes!

Paris Pad

In this room, Paris is certainly the focal point. ‘ All very glam, mirrored and black & white. Accessories? A Fendi throw pillow and mirrored obelisks.

Paris Pad

The dining room is bright and crisp in white with contrasting ebony wood floors, a mirrored dining table, and a crystal chandelier.

Paris Pad

The entry foyer, high in black and white contrast complete with a zebra striped area rug to carry the theme.

Paris Pad

Paris’s mirrored bed (as also seen in Emily’s recent post), accented in pretty shades of pale pink.

Paris Pad

Step into Paris’ closet: a mirrored dresser and a glam chandelier make this the ultimate girly girl walk-in closet.

Paris Pad

The private backyard has a poolside tented cabana and chaises decked out in black and white.

{Did anyone spy what looks to be a stripper pole in the center of the coffee table in the very first picture?}

Design crew

Got a problem? Need some help? Just standing there shaking your head? Don’t know what to do? You’re not alone. Send us a link to photos of your design quandary and let the Desire to Inspire design crew help you …. that’s you lot … the readers! Kristin needs your help this week. She’s a woman with strong ideas on a mission. I know you’ll love giving your 2 cents worth :)

I just moved from a small one-bedroom apartment in Manhattan to a 3 bedroom house in Denver.  Luckily, my mom is selling her house and I was also to take some furniture with me.  My design dilemma comes to us in the shape of an awkward living room.  The living room is long and narrow.  The entry from the front door is smack in the middle and located on the walls on either side of the entrance are long radiators (i.e. no furniture along one of the two longest walls in the room.)  The other long wall is closed with the exception of the entryway into the dining room (about 12 ft wide).  The two shorter walls have a fireplace and staircases (one upstairs and one to basement), respectively.  What a challenge!

I have decided to create two seating areas separated by the entryway.  However, in order to help the room flow, I would like to tie them together (using the existing furniture I have from Manhattan and from my mom – I’m on a budget) by using a navy/lilac color palette.  I have the basics – a neutral/ivory sofa, a navy sofa (a very dark ink color), a brown leather chair, a marble top coffee table with a walnut base and disparate wooden side tables.

I discovered a local upholsterer who is selling two British cane chairs.  She will reupholster them in any fabric I choose (the frame finish can also be customized).  They will be located next to the navy sofa (the ivory sofa, leather chair and marble top table comprise the other seating area in the room).  As everything in the room is solid, I would like to introduce a lilac print.  I’m looking for a grayish-lilac or khaki-lilac, something neutral to play against the navy.

To tie it all together, I eventually want to buy two matching area rugs and to use throw pillows, throw blankets, curtains etc to help spread the color palette throughout the room.  Does anyone have any navy/lilac inspiration for me?  Also, can anyone recommend an affordable lilac fabric for the chairs?  I’ve been told that lilac is not a popular color by every single fabric store in Denver (including the Design Center!)

And here is what she has to work with.

Cool IKEA Table with Embedded Train Set

19 Apr

http://interiordesignsense.com/tag//

We found a playful and fun coffee table design on IKEA Hackers and just had to share it. This Liatorp Coffee Table was initially purchased from IKEA and was modified so it could include an N scale model train set. Here is more information about the process from the designer: “I didn’t like the white so I painted about 95% of it black. Four coats of satin black furniture paint to be exact. After assembly, the only thing left to do is design the train layout. I used a program called AnyRail available at anyrail.com. Once the layout is set, it’s just a matter of purchasing the engines, cars and scenery that you like to complete the look. Since this was my first attempt, I spent a little more than I probably would have liked but I think it was worth it. It’s definitely a conversation piece and fun to look at.” We would have liked to know the name of the designer, so if you guys can help, please leave a comment below. Check out the video to see the trains in action!
