House of Vision by Kouichi Kimura in Shiga, Japan

9 May

In 2008 Japanese designer Kouichi Kimura created a specific property in the outskirts of Shiga, Japan. Located on foot hill area with fields surrounding the entire property, at a first glance the building looks odd, a bit minimalistic, and clean. But a deeper look and you can get a feel for the exceptionally emotional design intended to blend with nature. With a clean interior that exudes a pure ambient feel, the overall theme of the 181 sqm residence is a mixture of modernism as well as an unsurpassable natural ambient. Dubbed the “House of Vision” it’s the elegance of this enchanting project that got us sold in the first place.

“Electronic chaos” Vinyl Wall Stickers

7 May

Designed by Julia Wolf, these amusing and creative vinyl wall stickers are awesome. Instead of trying to hide plugs and cables, the vinyl stickers, created for the Brazilian company Diz Decor, emphasise the “electronic chaos”. I have to admit that I love this idea, and is an awesome way to make a white wall a very interesting place don’t you think ?

Stroyzk’s Wooden Carpet

7 May

A wildly creative idea, German designer Elisa Stroyzk has developed a rug made of wood-cut veneer.  Geometrically-designed wooden shapes fastened together to develop an actual carpet, Stroyzk was able to develop a radically original concept and a fun new textile all in one.  Right away, we can see how this would be a perfect addition to a concrete interior in a historic loft space as it provides a touch of inventive elegance that literally makes wood-tile flooring obsolete.  Combine this carpet with some bright, artistic, geometrical or modular furniture and you’d have designed yourself a very clean and inviting interior area! – via

A sustainable and eco-friendly home that was both cost-efficient and easy to build, the exclusive “Chestnut House” was designed with an ambient feel in mind. The location at Newport Beach adds a tinge of luxury and gives the home more than enough power for harvesting the sun’s power via solar panels attached to the Energy Star Cool roof. It is a modern family home equipped with 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, with bare walls that have not been painted (for better preservation and to avoid toxic emissions), recycled glass floors, and renewable resources that make it perfect for the green minded. – Via

House Prices Decline, Again

6 May

for-sale

House prices across the world are declining by massive percentages, and less than a year ago prices were set to 15% more than they currently are. That’s a drastic drop when you consider everyone who has been affected. And even when prices rise (like the rise seen in March), they quickly drop by the same amount, if not more. What does this mean for the housing market? It’s getting worse, slowly but surely, and projected losses are expected to go down at least another percent within the next few months. However there’s one good side of the story. The state of the economy “seems” beneficial for those interested in purchasing a new home and have the money to do so. So what do you think? Are you going to buy a property anytime soon? – Via

Tetris Furniture by Diego Silverio and Helder Filipov

6 May

Tetris is one of the most classic and phenomenal games ever created. Even over two decades later, the interest and hype still continues. Tetris is so popular, that two artists, Diego Silverio and Helder Filipov, have created epic and modern pieces of furniture which are modeled after the famed tetriminoes. Designed to be multi-functional (as desks, shelves, drawers or tables), these pieces offer functional storage, colorful design, and superiorly built frames. Surprisingly, each piece is designed to be able to stand alone or fit with the other tetris “pieces”. – Via
