No longer a background flower, designer Asif Khan has taken the subdued aesthetic of Gypsophila (better known as Baby’s Breath) and let it bloom into something splendid to sit on. Kahn began working with the flora when he was challenged by the Design Museum in London to create something special with London’s local plant life as a base material. What resulted was “Harvest,” a breathtaking series of furniture in which the sturdy is fused with the delicate, and the bland becomes something spectacular.

Dono is a modular furniture and sofas line that allows the home owner to take part in room design. This concept is a “breath of fresh air” when you can’t seem to find the right pieces for a room. One of the attractive features in this line is the outside shelving rail. The rail is available in options that include leather, oak, walnut and elm veneer. To complement the rail is a matte brushed stainless frame which adds to the overall modern appeal of Dono. Cushions can be moved and attached at many places in the modular furniture allowing for many different seating and relaxation combinations. This product was designed by Christain Werner and can be found here.

21 Jan

From Samal Design, this furniture collection really managed to draw our attention. These sculptural items are not only very bold and creative, but also make you think and want to take a closer look. The designer, Dzmitry SAMAL has a rich cultural background and  is known for his daring designs. These  furniture ideas are a display of postmodern art, also including a practical part. Because even though what you see in the pictures relates with to human body, each item can be very well used with a well defined purpose in any household. From lockers to tables, the collection seems to have it all. We now invite you to check it out and express your own opinion regarding this strange yet pleasant design idea. -via HomeDosh

Modern Decorative Metal Tiles by Karim Rashid

20 Jan

Karim Rashid is a name that appears everywhere, in fashion, interior design, furniture …and to prove that he is everywhere he designed these modern decorative metal tiles made in collaboration with Australian company Alloy Design. The cool collection comes in eight decorative designs, each a variation of recurring cells. In repetition, these cell tiles merge into a mesmerizing 3D pattern on your walls; a look that’s high-tech and futuristic, and “in motion” as light plays off the polished metal finish. Available in steel, copper, brass, titanium and raw steel (and fittingly, by names like Flux, Infinit, Karma, Kismet, Ninja, Kink and Ubiquity) these designer tiles are unlike anything you’ve ever seen. – Via – Trendir

 Simple and Elegant White Apartment

We know most of you out there don’t really enjoy crowded homes. which is why we decided to show you something special: a small, but extremely elegant apartment, with plenty of space and modern arrangements. How small exactly?- Take a guess. This great looking house only has a surface of 39 sq m, which, ironically, is more than enough for its owners living needs. Featuring high ceilings, wooden floors and immaculate white walls, the overall feeling is that of cleanness, elegance and …space. Even the floors are painted in white. With a minimalist but beautiful design and original furniture items, it will leave most of its guests speechless. We are very interested in your comments and opinions on this one. -via

Searching and Finding Inspiration for an Amazing Apartment

11 May

In the beginning Freshome was just a small place where I’ve gathered some inspiration for an apartment that I wanted to buy in the future. Day by day I was surfing online searching and trying to find more and more ideas for that perfect apartment. As you can see today there are a lot of amazing ideas on Freshome, but what I’ve found today really blew my mind. This is not a real apartment, is just a 3D picture created by a very talented 3D Modeler from Turkey called Elftug. To be honest, now after 2 years of searching ideas, I really want to transform this idea intro reality. I don’t know if this would be possible and what kind of apartment I would need for this project, but this is really awesome …don’t you think ?

Great Furniture Solution (Idea) for Small Places

9 May

Varie Vanity designed by G. Azzarello for Porada, is what I call a killer piece of furniture. When I first saw it I’ve immediately said to myself …I want this piece of furniture, is so cool. You can use this little piece of furniture as a small office, and when you’re not using the chair you can hide it, and nobody will notice it. This idea from Porada is a great solution for small places don’t you think ?

Stylish Inflatable Furniture by Blofield

9 May

Blofield is a company that offers furniture that is not just comfortable but are quite light in weight as well, because they are inflatable. I don’t expect that people will buy this “inflatable sofa” for their home, but when you go at a picnic this is awesome. They are portable, look good and  and can be taken anywhere you go. These sofas are sold in three different sizes, one person, two and three, and in three colors: green, white and dark gray. Furthermore the price is included in the bag to store and transport and a small pump. – Via – Decoracion2

Tetris Furniture by Diego Silverio and Helder Filipov

6 May

Tetris is one of the most classic and phenomenal games ever created. Even over two decades later, the interest and hype still continues. Tetris is so popular, that two artists, Diego Silverio and Helder Filipov, have created epic and modern pieces of furniture which are modeled after the famed tetriminoes. Designed to be multi-functional (as desks, shelves, drawers or tables), these pieces offer functional storage, colorful design, and superiorly built frames. Surprisingly, each piece is designed to be able to stand alone or fit with the other tetris “pieces”. – Via

The Financial Crisis and Its Effects on Product Design

5 May

Are you an industrial designer? How is the financial crisis being felt on your site? Worth a read, the recent article by journalist John Hockenberry over at Metropolis is trying to pick on the main issues that will happen to design when demands shrink. When the market is filled with non-buyers and the inclination not to spend is at record levels. As much fresh new content we need here on Freshome, having empty shoppers stores that are filled with design, just isn’t good for the business. So how might designers participate in an economy of no product? Check out the rest of the article (which is great) in here.
