Interior Design Sense

The Green Air is a mass of greens that you plant atop your monitor and use it as a frequent reminder to stop and smell the flowers! I am going to skip the technical details that are well explained in the ensuing images, and focus on the fact that we do need to contemplate our workspace and environment. In a sterile office setup with mechanical schedules, placebos like a mock green patch can do wonders for productivity and our health. Green Air is just another example of how we can pep up our space.

Going weak knees outta love and romance is a good thing, but when age (or aching gym-tired muscles) catches up, even simple tasks like sitting on the toilet seat become a pain. The Stand-helping Closestool Toilet Seat features a seat with a hydraulic-powered lever function, which helps you to stand up with ease. I’d be more comfortable if the design included a hand rail to stabilize the standing-up process. Tippling over will be such a shame!

The Arrow concept looks at starting a trend amongst teens, where they get hooked to sticking these glow-in-the-dark arrow-tattoos, which double up as hand signals for night time cycling. The socially responsible message is evident and I think the ‘cool quotient’ is good enough to lure sensible and safe riding practices. Love it!

The Fuel Cover is a manhole cover that serves two essential purposes. Primarily it functions as a safety indicator, displaying the methane and noxious gas levels from the ducts running below the road. Secondly it acts as a hub to harness biogas and kinetic energy that can be used by maintenance workers for their equipments, when they require it. As far as innovation, the precautionary feature serves more purpose than the plausible use as a power reserve. No doubt, the cover looks slick!

Inspired by the warm winds that originate in the Mediterranean between Africa and Spain, the Levante 360° fan heater provides efficient multidirectional heat that is pushed outward from the circular vent that surrounds the body. Unlike many conventional designs on the market, the Levante’s protective grille is replaced by an attractive tactile shell that makes it almost unrecognizable as a space heater (as you know, they can be quite an eyesore).

Designed by Rebecca Asquith, these Nectar Hanging Lamps by Designtree make perfectly sweet pendant lights – sweet as a honeycomb, one might say. The design was actually inspired by the honeycomb, due to its naturally efficient and admirable design. When designers take their cue from nature, it usually results in something great.
