Interior Design Sense

Situated in Bromma, west Stockholm, this beautiful cosy apartment of 80 square meters is occupied by a couple with two kids. Every inch of the place has a personal story, starting with the artwork that can be found all over the apartment and ending with a personalized footprint right at the door. The yellow brick villa from the early 1960s shelters the cosy rooms in which the family finds time to come together and enjoy the balanced interiors. The couple kept the old doors and parquet flooring and decided to salvage what they can from the former residence and renovate according to their taste and style. Found on Skonahem, the apartment conveys a feeling of a well maintained and moderately patinated modernism.’  Combining vintage elements and modern accents, the residence ended up looking like a very personal space. The blinds in the bedroom have lines from the movie Annie Hall and dark coloured walls complement the staircase, creating an artistic filter for the decorating elements.

This friendly and cozy looking home was designed by Bosworth Hoedemaker, LLC and is located in Guemes Island, Washington. The play between private and public spaces was the theme in mind when developing this project called North Puget Sound Compound. The owner has beautiful memories about time spent in summer cabins, which is why the architects envisioned a site with more than one comfortable retreats. This way the family can enjoy a relaxing time in any of the two delightful cabins, which are quite similar in form. Moreover, this unusual structured site provides a great opportunity for the family and guests to engage each other in the environment and at the end of the day it offers complete privacy. As one steps inside, things get even more alluring. Wooden elements make a beautiful contrast with the white wall paint and ensure a warm atmosphere. Nature is brought indoors due to the wide windows and original timber furniture. All in all, a dreamy home, that seems to invite its viewers to relax.

It’s got elements of the traditional, but there’s no denying it – this solid walnut wood table by IL Pezzo Mancante has a wild streak! The Italian furniture brand designed this stunning dining table using a solid, 8cm walnut block with a flash of ash or wenge streaking its way down the center. The natural oiled finish brings out the wood’s organic beauty. As its base, this table boasts seemingly random blocks of hand-forged brass. This table is sure to set the stage for a sumptuous meal and a lesson is great design, so pull up a seat! Choose from custom sizes and finishes. Prices are available on request. German based designer Yuya Ushida has recently completed Sofa_XXXX, an incredible product that is both contractible and retractile, which makes it highly versatile. According to Co.Design, the designer used no less than 8000 chopstick for this uncommon sofa, cut into four different lengths in order to form X-shaped components that could build the structure. All the elements war joined perfectly (check out the photos for amazing details), so much so that up to three people of 70 kilos each can sit together on the sofa without it being caused any damage. Moreover, the unusual looking furniture piece can be easily transformed into a chair and then back again by expanding (pulling) and contracting (pushing) the structure. “A Room for London” is a fun architectural competition and Studio Octopi has quite an interesting candidate available in the images below. We’re looking at an elliptical nest-like building placed on Queen Elizabeth Hall that overlooks the whole city. The whole apartment is built using various pre-fabricated elements of insulated structural timber panels and can be moved at any time to a different location. Inside this Studio Octopi creation you’ll find anything you need to lead a normal life. You have a bedroom, the kitchen, and a vast living area. Not to mention the center area of the ellipse which keeps your own outdoors oasis hidden from curious eyes. And yes, that’s a pool out there; too bad London’s weather is not always best suited for outdoors swimming. Via Studio Octopi
