Interior Design Sense

We here on Freshome love to show you furniture items that break the patterns and bring a plus of originality to an interior. Recently we ran into this interesting cabinet. It is called “Tout Va Bien Cabinet” -in translation “everything will be alright”- and belongs to Antoine+Manuel, a team of graphic designers from France. We liked its shape and tiny feet which we consider to be quite unusual. Further more, the carvings are very interesting.  They are the focus point of the cabinet and an distinctive element. The item comes in both white and black and can be integrated in a minimalist interior with simple arrangements. The price is available on request on the manufacturer’s page here.

JSª is a team of architects from Mexico City. They recently developed this breathtaking residential project situated by the beach in Lima, the capital of Peru. The location couldn’t be better- a peaceful area located not far away from the urban madness, where all the major events take place. A white and captivating exterior, with large windows draws attention to the building that houses 4 apartments. Stone stairs connect the levels on the outside.  A beautiful pool completes the mystical feel of this residential wonder. The interior design is modern and minimalist, with interesting furniture items and original color arrangements. Dual functionality is the name of the game and if you add in words like “green”, ecofirendly” or “recycle”, the game gets better. What we have here is a simple enough solution to a problem that might not exists;but let’s just go with the flow for a moment. Scenario is that you move often and/or don’t have the resources to furnish your sparse accommodation, so you probably need boxes that can double up as furniture. So when you’re not packing stuff into “Move!”, just rearrange its body to become this seat to park your butt. Configure it at whim, make it a bedside table if you like.

Move is a packing box which can be folded and reused as furniture once it is unpacked. Re-usage and eco-material make Move sustainable and inexpensive at the same time. Corrugated cardboard is bio-degradable, 100% recyclable and yet extremely stable.

We just got a tip from reader Selvan about a dual-purpose bicycle that can be used for transportation as well as for energy production. Using a stand that fixes the bike in a stationary position and a pedal power attachment that can be fabricated from widely available parts, the DPB can be used to power numerous small‑scale mechanical devices such as grain threshers, grinders, water pumps, electrical generators, and furniture making tools. Because the bike is low-cost and pretty simple to fabricate, it’s ideal for developing nations.

It’s been quite some time since Minneapolis interior design firm Gunkelman Flesher has been featured on DTI so how about a long-overdue encore. They have an undeniable creativity and unique use of colour, but on the other hand a wonderful ability to keep things muted yet still eye-catching. I love the lines of the furniture used throughout. Captivating, sophisticated and timeless.

I was scoping out the portfolio of architecture and interior design firm West Chin the other day to see if there were more photos I could showcase here that Jo hadn’t already done in her post back in June. I came across a swanky pad that I thought was worthy of it’s own post. This flat is modern but not too harsh, with funky bits here and there (including a couple sets of boobs and a pair of diaper chairs), and even some cute spaces for the kids (the parents must lock them in their rooms for fear of dirty hands on the furniture). FAB!

Tunelli is an Italian company founded in the mid 1980s who designs and produces furniture items in glass. We really enjoyed looking through their portfolio and our choice for you guys is this amazing contemporary collection of coffee tables. With a high regard to aesthetic effect, the company created these items in order to bring a plus of refinement and style to a room. Some of the products have very original shapes and go great with modern environments. Others come with with a storage space for fruit bowls and magazines. We took a special interest in the ones that have two or even three separate components, even though from a practical point of view, one would probably prefer a coffee table built from only one piece.
