Why I wanted a shipping container – part 2

17 Mar

Here is another store in Puerto Vallarta that I almost passed out in. It’s called Ponciana, located downtown, and was filled with everything under the sun. Clothing, tons of linens (lace, tablecloths, pillowcovers, runners…), mirrors, furniture, glassware, dishes, pottery, paintings…you name it. And I went a little nutty in this store knowing I could fit little bits and pieces in my suitcase. To my delight I did end up purchasing several items. Here’s a peek inside Ponciana, and coincidentally you’ll get a glimpse at a few of the things that came home with me (which is another post for later).

Why I wanted a shipping container – part 1

17 Mar

Today I thought I’d post some more photos from my trip to Mexico, specifically from a couple of the shops that I fell in love with. Then tomorrow I’ll show you all the stuff I managed to cram in my 1 suitcase.

This first shop located in downtown Puerto Vallarta is called Origenes – David Luna. It was BEOOOOOOTIFUL. Tons of incredible rustic, earthy furniture from Mexico and elsewhere that I could have furnished an entire home with. To die for. And none of it fit in my suitcase. If you’re in Puerto Vallarta, you must check it out for the eye candy factor. Bring a shipping container with you.  :) (Their website includes details of the locations of their 4 shops and interior design projects).

How To Design A Two-Room Apartment With Style

17 Mar

Having a small apartment can be a drag when it comes to implementing the desired interior design idea. Here is an example of a two-room apartment which is both very aesthetic and functional. So how did they do it?As you can see, the home plan features a hallway, two rooms (left and right), a kitchen and a bathroom. In order to achieve a high level of practicability, the designers took advantage of every single corner of the house. The hallway(the area with the red wallpaper)  is welcoming and also has some integrated furniture elements such as a small table and an armchair. This turns it into a room on its own. The sense of space is given by the white and tall walls. The living room is modern and features a cozy reading space near the window. There are plenty of inspirational ideas to chose from in the pictures below so take your time and find the suited ones for yourselves.-via Alvhem

Speechless! Want, need, want, can’t have. I love this Paddington terrace. LOVE. From the exterior colour to the quirky touches inside, the white and the colour, the artwork and those Achille Castiglioni Diablo Rise and Fall Lamps. Don’t get me started on the furniture! Love. Way out of my price range but this girl will be having pleasant dreams tonight of a make believe life in this beauty. Here while the link lasts.

Modern Mexican Villa: Mo House From JCNAME Architects

13 Mar

f you are a fan of contemporary architecture, then check out this modern Mexican villa from JCNAME Architects. Too parallel boxes, each with a well defined design were connected together for this project called “MO House”. White, red and black were the colors chosen for the exterior, a palette which brings a sober touch. Large windows facilitate a good indoor illumination and contribute to the overall modern design. Privacy is not an issue, as the frosted glass does not allow too much visibility. The interior is minimalist, with stairs connecting the floors and interesting looking furniture. The illuminated floors and large painting are elements that build up the home’s personality.-via Dagen’s Design

Beautiful Apartment in Lisbon : A Fun Family Renovation

13 Mar

These amazing interiors belong to in a beautiful apartment in Lisbon, Portugal, a place which dates back to the year 1850. However, the more interesting part is that the home was redecorated by a family and the work was done without consulting any specialists. Sure, by the way things look, you might say this is a job well done and perhaps the owners are design specialists their selves. Some of the rooms have a white theme, preserving the 1980’s style. The living room is modern and vivid, with bright colors and plenty of good taste. Interesting furniture items such as a wooden cabinet with a vintage feel are a reminder of the apartment’s “age”. You could say this is a nice mix between old and new and a very successful approach to interior design. Do you agree?-via The White Sheet

“Tout Va Bien Cabinet” from Antoine+Manuel

11 Mar

We here on Freshome love to show you furniture items that break the patterns and bring a plus of originality to an interior. Recently we ran into this interesting cabinet. It is called “Tout Va Bien Cabinet” -in translation “everything will be alright”- and belongs to Antoine+Manuel, a team of graphic designers from France. We liked its shape and tiny feet which we consider to be quite unusual. Further more, the carvings are very interesting.  They are the focus point of the cabinet and an distinctive element. The item comes in both white and black and can be integrated in a minimalist interior with simple arrangements. The price is available on request on the manufacturer’s page here.

A Breathtaking Residential Project in Peru by JSª Architects

11 Mar

JSª is a team of architects from Mexico City. They recently developed this breathtaking residential project situated by the beach in Lima, the capital of Peru. The location couldn’t be better- a peaceful area located not far away from the urban madness, where all the major events take place. A white and captivating exterior, with large windows draws attention to the building that houses 4 apartments. Stone stairs connect the levels on the outside.  A beautiful pool completes the mystical feel of this residential wonder. The interior design is modern and minimalist, with interesting furniture items and original color arrangements. We don’t know why the building is called “22″, but we really like its name. -via Platforma Arquitectura

Move! Your Butt And Stuff

10 Mar

Dual functionality is the name of the game and if you add in words like “green”, ecofirendly” or “recycle”, the game gets better. What we have here is a simple enough solution to a problem that might not exists;but let’s just go with the flow for a moment. Scenario is that you move often and/or don’t have the resources to furnish your sparse accommodation, so you probably need boxes that can double up as furniture. So when you’re not packing stuff into “Move!”, just rearrange its body to become this seat to park your butt. Configure it at whim, make it a bedside table if you like.

Move is a packing box which can be folded and reused as furniture once it is unpacked. Re-usage and eco-material make Move sustainable and inexpensive at the same time. Corrugated cardboard is bio-degradable, 100% recyclable and yet extremely stable.
