Furniture Friday: Patterned Pieces

Furniture Friday: Patterned Pieces

{Miles Redd as seen in House Beautiful}

Many times clients are hesitant to add a crazy pattern into the mix because they are scared they will tire of it quickly.  My theory is the opposite, I think we tire much quicker of a sea of beige than one a punchy piece.  If you love the fabric, then chances are that’s the piece you’ll love the most.  I love solid color upholstery as much as the next person because it is timeless and versatile, but I’d love to find a place for a colorful settee.

The much blogged about Living Room of Ivanka Trump (which I still love).  Settee upholstered in a LuluDK fabric.

Patterned pieces don’t have to be all crazy-pants either as the above two images prove.

 Have a great weekend everyone!  I think now I’ll spend mine looking for a great vintage piece to recover in one of my favorite prints!

28 Apr

Attention Dallas dwellers! Mark your calendars for an exciting event organized by the amazing people behind the thriving, non-profit organization Dwell with Dignity!

One hundred percent of the proceeds from the “Thrift Studio” will benefit the future of Dwell with Dignity and its mission to help families escape poverty and homelessness through design, providing those in need with furnishings, art, bedding and kitchen supplies, even food for the pantry.

This month-long event will take place every Tuesday-Sunday between April 14th-May 12th with participants including Wisteria, Michelle Nussbaumer, Horchow, Container Store, and TLC Contract, among others. Fitness Furniture

28 Apr

In the modern world, the average working person sits almost 10 hours per day! It seems a bit unnatural doesn’t it? It’s no wonder that the latest trend in furniture is seating that aims to work your body while you’re at work. The Jopple is one example that forces the user to maintain balance while seated so they maintain a tight core. The design’s cushions also fold out to form a workout pad where the user can do crunches or stretch. If only it would yell at you when you’re being lazy!

If Decepticons Had Furniture

24 Apr

Inspired by the Transformer’s Allspark, the Perceptor cabinet combines modern art and interior furnishing into a one-off piece that will grab your attention and keep it. Playful lines and angular, surrealist graphics play with the viewer’s perception, making it almost unrecognizable as a place for storage. It can be a little hard to process when you first see it, but after a while it really grows on you!
