Interior Design Sense

I’m currently working on a project where we are using some incredibly fun’ Quadrille fabrics. ‘ I had never taken the time to visit their website before and let me just tell you, it is one site FULL of eye candy!! ‘ When I clicked on their “Editorial Portfolio”, every single room that I’ve ever loved was on there!

I had been searching for a counter bench for a client project, inspired by the picture above.

Then just the other day as I was looking through the latest issue of House Beautiful magazine:

House 6 comes from Studio MK27 and it is an impressive architecture project located in São Paulo, Brazil. Meant to redefine the traditional veranda area, this house is composed of two impressive rectangular building entities joined together at different ends. This way they form a charming home outdoor gallery beneath which serves as an entertainment space for the people inside. The stacked volumes are also a very original way to separate the levels of the residence. This house is as beautiful looking as it is diverse. The first floor- the one connected directly to the outdoor pool- houses the living, kitchen and dining space. Large windows provide a good relationship with the exterior and soothing views. The second floor hosts a kitchen extension, a bar and a beautiful entertainment room (the one with the TV in the photos below). How’s this for a showcase of contemporary living?

This beautiful beach house is located in the vicinity of a famous surfing spot, close to Slaughterhouse Beach, Maui and was designed by Olson Kundig Architects . The landscape looks amazing and at a first glance the pictures could give the impression that perhaps the construction is not real. The unusual building is said to take the concept of a surfing hut forward and combine its traditional features with a contemporary way of living. Here is more from the architects:”The structure’s walls are constructed from rammed earth. In this process, different local earth-based mixtures are packed together, and the resulting striated layers are visible both inside and outside the building. The walls blend in with the surroundings, are low maintenance, virtually fireproof, and a strong barrier to sound.” Three “huts” were combined in order to complete this residence, each with their well defined purpose: living space, guest rooms and a general sleeping area. Perched on the foothills near Camos do Jordão in Sao Palo, Brazil, the House For A Couple is a thoughtful residence made from low-impact materials that minimizes any disturbance of its site. The architect André Eisenlohr built the home as a bridge projecting out to the forest below it. The lightweight wall system and carefully-balanced floors allow the structure to push further out than would be possible using traditional building techniques, thus reducing the overall footprint of the home dramatically.

Not only is this striking metal-sided house a beautiful example of prefab architecture — it was also designed not just for the people who reside there, but also for their animals! The owners of the home wanted a safe haven for their many animals that would protect them from local predators, so the home was designed with special areas just for pets. Located in the New Mexico desert on the Rio Chama, the Abiquiu House by Anderson Anderson Architecture also utilizes a number of energy and resource-efficient construction techniques.

From Richard Meier & Partners Architects comes this beautiful white beach home located in Southern California and neighbored by a huge courtyard to the west and the Pacific Ocean to the south. Its design combines a modern architecture approach with a white and peaceful beach home feel. The exterior is truly magnificent and the lines create a playful harmony of light and shades. It is almost as someone painted it this beach house on a beautiful blue background. The interiors are airy and spacious, featuring floor to ceiling windows, offering spectacular views. Dramatic indoor walls and contemporary furniture complete the image of today’s dream house.- via Living with White

Oh how I love a good zigzag!  As of late, I’ve been completely smitten with this distinctive and confident pattern.  There is nothing subtle about it!    Watch how this pattern takes center stage and transforms rooms through pillows, rugs, wallpaper, and furniture, giving each its own distinct personality.

House M comes from Caramel Architects and is located in Linz, Austria. The first striking thing about this house is its exterior design: two facades have a hermetic appearance in order to prevent passers by from looking inside, while the other two feature windows from floor to ceiling. This design allows the building to receive plenty of natural light throughout the day, which is just one of the factors due to which this construction can be called highly economical and ecological. House M is built from prefabricated materials and has cellulose-fiber thermal isolation. The kitchen and dining rooms are spacious and open areas and offer great views of the near by pond.
