Kate Mathis

14 Mar

Oh my! Oh my, oh my, oh my! Have you ever seen such amazing colour? The lovely light. Shadows subtly adding to the shots. I am inspired by photographer Kate Mathis‘ work. From vignettes to rooms her images are beautiful. Sometimes a closeup of objects or a colour study can get the creative juices flowing and make my mind tick over with ideas just as much as a cleverly designed space.

Est #7

19 Nov

Hooray! Est Magazine Issue #7 – The Grand Tour Issue – is out today. Love Est. I think it has to be my favourite online magazine and not just because it is Australian. The Grand Tour Issue is a visual escape to far off isles and destinations. From a cliff top villa on Capri, to an idyllic sanctuary in Mallorca and an eclectic townhouse in Bordeaux – Est will have you conjuring up dreams of far flung places and lifestyles.

Lynda Evans, Creative Director, emailed to let us know that Est is moving to a new home.

“On Friday 16 we officially launched our new look website giving readers more access to inspiration, images and features to save, pin and share. Only Est subscribers will still be able to view all 7 issues in our archive – and the best part is its still free to subscribe! As the year comes to an end its time to start dreaming of far flung destinations (if only in our head) to regenerate for another busy year ahead – come join us.”

Photography by Julien Fernandez, Tara Pearce, Mindi Cooke and Robyn Lea.

Heather Hobhouse

11 Nov

Great images, great homes, great photographer. Perfect way to end a long, long, long week. Collective sighs of relief waft up from the heaving masses of design junkies. (It’s Friday and the purple prose is a side effect of said long, long, long week.) Welcome to the fab portfolio of Brit photographer, Heather Hobhouse. White light, bright and just right.  Enjoy!

Brit photographer Mark Bolton understands what makes his subject tick and captures that illusive essence with ease. His subject matter? Interiors, lifestyle and gardens. Just what we love on Desire to Inspire. Lucky for us then that his portfolio is full of inspiring images. Find out more about Bolton’s creative process on his blog and peruse his online shop for prints.

A palace in Lisbon

13 Oct

We received the following email the other day from Joana: I thought you might want to take a look at Palácio Belmonte in Lisbon, Portugal. It’s right in the heart of the old district of Castelo, two steps away from the castle. Palácio Belmonte was a noble family’s residence for centuries; it has probably one of the best views in the city. It was one of the first palaces built in Lisbon (it dates back to 1449). It fell, however, in neglect; in the 90′s, already in ruins, it was bought and patiently restored by a french entrepreneur. It is now a luxury hotel. I’m an architecture student and a photographer; when I came across the palace, by chance, I had no idea it even existed. You can walk right by it and not even notice it’s there. There was a man playing the piano, though, and the music led to a cup of coffee, which led to a small walk inside the Palace. More than one year later, I eventually asked the owner for permission to go and take pictures; those are the images I’m sending you. WOW. I’ve always wanted to visit Portugal…and now I’m more determined than ever. This hotel is beautiful, and so are your photos Joana!

swing-table-1.jpg

Designer Christopher Duffy has sent us the latest images of his amazing Swing Table, created for Duffy London.

Here’s from the designer:
“Putting a little extra fun into dinner time and boardroom meetings, this four poster table uses its structure to suspend a central GEO lampshade and eight hanging chairs that sway playfully.
This design creates an exceptionally divergent experience and aesthetic, creating a room within a room, with chairs that float around the table, it also makes vacuuming a breeze.
Materials: Walnut from Stewardship Council managed forests and other controlled sources, powder coated mild steel.”

The Swing Table is available in bespoke finishes and sizes. Priced at £6,895. Visit Duffy London for more details.
