35H Lounger by Frédéric Sofia

14 Jan

If you spend long hours reading a book or at the computer like me then this piece of furniture ( 35H Lounger designed by Frédéric Sofia ) is a must.  Featuring smooth leather cushion, a cast aluminum frame and modern technology, the relaxation armchair offers ergonomic comfort, as it automatically adjusts the angle and the body-weight of the user through pneumatic jacks.

This piece of furniture maximizes comfort and good posture and all the controls for adjusting the alignment of the lounger resides in the armrests and not underneath like most chairs have. Finally you can also see from the pictures that the chair looks very clean and neat. – Via

Liquid Lamp : Appears to have no stand

14 Jan

If you are a loyal reader of this website then you might remember our collection with the 40 of The Most Creative Lamp Designs Ever, that we posted a few months ago. Today here is an unique yet bizarre home accessory that might also fit pretty well in that collection. This artistic looking lamp appears to resemble an overturned bucket spilling milk ( the white version ) or blood ( the red version ). Not only that, the lampshade also appears to have no stand – it’s held up instead by the “frozen” liquid oozing onto the table or down the wall, depending on the lamp’s style. The design looks pretty cool, and I’m sure that a lot of guests will want to take a second look at this lamp. For those interested this lamp is available now in two different styles (wall-mount or tabletop) for 19,950 yen (about $227) for white and 23,100 yen (about $262) for red from here. – Via

Hot Interior Design Colors for 2009

14 Jan

January has arrived and with it the new year. To many, the New Year is about resolutions, looking towards the upcoming year and reviewing the last year. At Freshome, January is about looking at the hottest colors for the upcoming year. For that reason, we have listed a few colors that are sure to make a great impact on your home decor and it may inspire you to start a new design project. I know a few of the colors have really inspired me and I’m already looking for a new chaise in a few of the shades that will be popular in 2009.

Grey Skies from Here on Out

Okay, grey may bring to mind dark clouds and rainy days made tedious due to boredom but grey is making an amazing statement on the color palette this year. It is less about hard and dark greys and more about the smokier greys like dove grey. Use grey as a focal color or simply as an accent and if you feel the dark grey really sets a statement, don’t be afraid to use it too.

Memories of Orange
2008 was a popular year for orange and many people had the enjoyment of placing a variety of orange shades on walls, furniture and in accents. Orange can be playful, warm and relaxing and it is a color that will continue to be popular throughout 2009.2009-colors Hot Interior Design Colors for 2009

Glints of Metal:
Metallic colors always seem to have a place in hot colors regardless of the year but 2009 will see more of a push away from golds and silvers. Instead, coppers and bronze will be a popular metallic to add to any home decor as well as pewter tones.

Meadows filled with Blue
Periwinkles, blue daisies and every other shade of blue that you can imagine, from the vibrant to the soft, will be a popular color choice in 2009. The great thing about blue is its versatility. Many people don’t realize it but blue can work with a wide range of colors. Pairing a deep blue with a vibrant orange can create a bold and playful space and it can be an excellent choice for a kid’s room. Another bonus with blue is that it works well with metallics and will even look great with the hot metallic colors of 2009.

Bust out the crayon box
The lat hot color for 2009 that I really want to mention is all of them. Designers and colorists alike are really stressing that you work with colors that you love. You can’t go wrong if it is a color you enjoy, that works well in your home and that leaves a lasting statement. So here is to a 2009 that is filled with color and design.

Solar Decathlon Sustainable House in Ithaca, New York

11 Jan

The competition held by the Department of Energy at Cornell University makes sure architects come up energy efficient homes. That’s the case with the Solar Decathlon House in Ithaca, New York, where the guys from Zero Energy Design (ZED) worked their butts to meet the criteria for a zero-energy residence. The one bedroom and one bathroom home uses photovoltaic and thermal systems, rain-water recycling and water-efficient fixtures and is surrounded by a green scenery. And the interior is just as stunning packing everything you’d need in a modern home. However, the most interesting part is the outside couch … Lovely!

Surfhouse in Hermosa Beach, California

9 Jan

surfhouse-in-hermosa-beach-1 Surfhouse in Hermosa Beach, California

California and surf go along really well. So does the Surfhouse you see above. Located in Hermosa Beach, it features a clean design and straight lines, it tries to maximize spaces, light, and to bring in those amazing views of the ocean. Though the whole site is incredible small, the guys from XTEN Architecture managed to do a great job with this abstract block of weathered wood, so if you’re a passionate surfer, that must be the perfect places to live. On a busy beachside street, just a few blogs away from the Pacific Ocean. Do you like it? [via DigsDigs]

Building your home from scratch must be really powerful, but if you’re an architect then it has to be the ultimate challenge. On a 2,600 m2 plot, the open door house was designed by the guys from Meneghetti Architects as a weekend retreat. With a lavish interior that promotes large windows and breathing spaces, the house has elegant shapes, exquisite furniture and a great view of the trees nearby. They did an amazing job if you ask me. It’s a great place to relax after a hard week at the office, isn’t it? [via NoticiasArquitectura]

If you ever thought that building a home on water is easy stuff, you got that wrong. There’s weather you should consider, water levels and so on. Located on an island on Lake Huron in Ontario, Canada, this floating residence is work of MOS Architects; and they did a great job with their steel platform structure with incorporated pontoons that keeps it floating. The guys are not only great with structures, but also have taste for interiors. With large windows, open spaces, contemporary furniture, lots of wood and an amazing view of the lake, the floating house sounds like a great retreat for those hot summers, isn’t it?

Level 5 by Paula Scher

9 Jan

This dressing wall created by Paula Scher is something really creative. I have to admit that I love this idea and if I would live at the 5th floor I’ll definitely apply it. This idea is better, highly visible and more unique than the small sign on the wall. Some people might now see the number 5 from the first glance, but after a few seconds it will finally appear and amaze those who were “blind” before. – Via

Hand Foot Chair by Pedro Friedeberg

9 Jan

Sometimes when I’m looking around me I see a lot of crazy ideas, and peoples with strange tastes. Today I’m going to present a piece of furniture that is from this category …unusual and wired. The Hand & Foot Chair is a fabulous sculptural piece signed Pedro Friedeberg chair dating to the 1960’s. From a sculptural point of view this chair is really amazing, but I don’t see to many people having something like this in their homes. What do you think ? – Via
