Reader request – black kitchens

4 Aug

Today’s reader request comes from Beverly: I am considering painting my kitchen cabinets black, at least the lowers. Most likely will do the uppers, which are doorless, in white to keep the room from being too dark. There is no natural light. Do you have any inspirations? I sure do!! I LOVE kitchens with black, whether it be just an island, or a wall, or cabinets. Now without natural light maybe painting the uppers white is a good idea but if you have a reasonable amount of wall space and you paint that white, then you likely could get away with painting all the cabinets black. Plus whatever you are displaying in the door-less uppers will show so nicely against the black. I couldn’t find many photos with black lowers and white uppers but you’ll see in many of these photos that white uppers maybe aren’t necessary.

8 Feb

yoo is a residential interior and architecture design firm, the result of a partnership between property entrepreneur John Hitchcox and world renowned designer Philippe Starck. This firm has set out to design the world, with projects throughout Asia, Australia, Europe, Africa, North and South America and the Middle East. And to make this firm even more impressive is its lineup of superstar designers – Marcel Wanders, Jade Jagger, Kelly Hoppen and Anouska Hempel. I don’t think you can go wrong by investing in a yoo property! Especially when they look THIS good….

Will and Kate’s Royal Remodel?

12 Dec

Word on the street is that British interior designer Kelly Hoppen (and ex-step mum to Sienna Miller) will be helping William and Kate with the interior design of  their future London residence, Kensington Palace.

Apparently Will and Kate “want to create a modern quarter to live in” at Kensington (as told by Us Weekly).

I’d think that Kelly would be the perfect designer to help them achieve this.  She is apparently one of Victoria Beckham’s faves and if she is good enough for Posh and Becks…

Not only does Kelly provide interior design services, but she also has a line for Century Furniture.  Oh, and did I forget to mention the multitude of other lines that she has- including paints, candles, clothing, fabrics, shutters, and wallpaper?  She’s like the British version of Candice Olsen!

Can’t wait to see what she comes up with for Kate and Will (and let’s hope her design is featured somewhere for the public to see…hmmm I see an Architectural Digest cover in their future!)

Mel Yates

5 Aug

How about a power house of photography today? How about a guy that consistently snaps fabulous hard core room porn pics that are guaranteed to feed our addiction? I can’t believe we haven’t featured Mel Yates before. You’ll know his work. Think Abigail Ahern, Kelly Hoppen and Graham & Brown, editorial work for House & Garden, Living Etc and Elle Decoration. It’s a passion and it shows! P.S. For probably the most over the top room ever on Desire to Inspire you’ll have to wait until after the jump.

Small dining spaces

15 Jan

Continuing on the “small” theme, today I thought I’d showcase some small dining spaces. My favourite small dining space includes a built-in banquette – preferably in a nook. LOVE THAT. I am determined to one day buy a house that perfectly suits such a thing. I would spend every waking moment there – eating, blogging, reading mags etc. There’s a few banquettes below (and in this post), among other seating arrangements.
