We like to keep close tabs on the latest news in LED innovation, but in reality it doesn’t really mean much unless the technology is used. That’s why we were impressed when we heard that Brinker, the company that owns the Chili’s and Maggiano’s Restaurant chains recently announced that they will switch all 827 of their restaurants to LEDs– saving $3.7 million dollars a year. The eateries even claim to prefer the ambiance afforded by the new lighting technology to incandescents.

Here is another project designed by Danielle Mac Innes from Fuse Interiors, awarded ‘Best Newcomer’ at Ireland’s premier interiors show, Interior Design 2008, she has been widely recognized by the media for her fresh and unique style. This apartment was part of a new residential development situated in Dublin. The client was a large property developer and the brief was to create a unique, contemporary look that would appeal to a young market while bringing a fresh feel to the development. Fuse Interiors started with a shell and developed a strong design concept which was implemented from start to finish. The apartment has fantastic living space and now has a great individual contemporary interior style!

House of Vision by Kouichi Kimura in Shiga, Japan

9 May

In 2008 Japanese designer Kouichi Kimura created a specific property in the outskirts of Shiga, Japan. Located on foot hill area with fields surrounding the entire property, at a first glance the building looks odd, a bit minimalistic, and clean. But a deeper look and you can get a feel for the exceptionally emotional design intended to blend with nature. With a clean interior that exudes a pure ambient feel, the overall theme of the 181 sqm residence is a mixture of modernism as well as an unsurpassable natural ambient. Dubbed the “House of Vision” it’s the elegance of this enchanting project that got us sold in the first place.

Luxurious Chestnut House in Newport Beach

6 May

A sustainable and eco-friendly home that was both cost-efficient and easy to build, the exclusive “Chestnut House” was designed with an ambient feel in mind. The location at Newport Beach adds a tinge of luxury and gives the home more than enough power for harvesting the sun’s power via solar panels attached to the Energy Star Cool roof. It is a modern family home equipped with 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, with bare walls that have not been painted (for better preservation and to avoid toxic emissions), recycled glass floors, and renewable resources that make it perfect for the green minded. – Via

Among the finest locations in Los Angeles, Brentwood Park is a world class neighborhood with clean air and cool ocean breezes. With gracious homes on very large lots that give much of Beverly Hills’ prestige, check out this extravagant contemporary residence that is currently for sale. With an exceptional eye for detail, the property is built on a 2 acre site. It has nine bedrooms and six bathrooms all built by following a modern airy theme, by adding steel framing and an extensive use of glass. And one of the most interesting things (if you don’t care about the amazing views of the ocean and the city) is that it uses wooden floors AND wooden ceilings. It’s currently for sale at $15.95 million, if you have the green stuff. – via

The Lap Counter by Tomas Kral

1 May

For those of you who spend time cooking here is an interesting idea designed by Tomas Kral that might be quite useful. The Lap Counter is a plastic tray and a neat kitchen facility, which gives you the mobility to peel, chop, slice fruits and vegetables almost anywhere in the house. It’s ergonomically shaped to fit the lap of the sitting person and it’s molded for both a container and a working surface.

lap_counterIt will barely siton your drying rack or fit in your washing machine, so it’s better thinking in the direction of assembling different modules, but besides that the Lap Counter is a brilliant facility for your prep cooking comfort. – Via – Dsgnwrld

The Twist Chair by Jonas Lyndby Jensen

30 Apr

A backrest, seat or protective shelter, Jonas Lyndby Jensen’s “Twist Chair” is something that would make an amazing accent seat for a bedroom.  A creative addition to circular or curvilinear interior themes, the fabric choice, by Morten la Cour, was actually chosen because it echoes the naturalistic, protective design of a bird’s nest.  Originally developed for use in a public library, the Twisted Chair is built from a single twisted band and has the added bonus of serving as a sound barrier for people who are interested in stealing away moments of quiet isolation to read their newest books on the Eames design process or check on up Freshome from their laptops. – via

The Wisdom Tree Bookshelf by Jordi Milà

30 Apr

Personally I have to say that I love books, and I with I could read faster, because there are so many interesting things on the internet and so many books but so little time in a day. Today I’ve found a beautiful way to store your books designed by Jordi Milà. The WisdomTree is for people who see books as a source of knowledge and emotions and not simply as decorative objects. Its fluid and organic shape is inspired by growth of a plant. The books that represent the fruit of knowledge are supported by pieces covered in leather. The Wisdom Tree is a magnificent name for this extraordinary bookshelf. Its sinewy branches can hold not only books but small pieces of art. – Via – Slyoyster
