Interior Design Sense

The competition held by the Department of Energy at Cornell University makes sure architects come up energy efficient homes. That’s the case with the Solar Decathlon House in Ithaca, New York, where the guys from Zero Energy Design (ZED) worked their butts to meet the criteria for a zero-energy residence. The one bedroom and one bathroom home uses photovoltaic and thermal systems, rain-water recycling and water-efficient fixtures and is surrounded by a green scenery. And the interior is just as stunning packing everything you’d need in a modern home. However, the most interesting part is the outside couch … Lovely!

Solar Decathlon Sustainable House in Ithaca, New York

California and surf go along really well. So does the Surfhouse you see above. Located in Hermosa Beach, it features a clean design and straight lines, it tries to maximize spaces, light, and to bring in those amazing views of the ocean. Though the whole site is incredible small, the guys from XTEN Architecture managed to do a great job with this abstract block of weathered wood, so if you’re a passionate surfer, that must be the perfect places to live. Surfhouse in Hermosa Beach, California

If you ever thought that building a home on water is easy stuff, you got that wrong. There’s weather you should consider, water levels and so on. Located on an island on Lake Huron in Ontario, Canada, this floating residence is work of MOS Architects; and they did a great job with their steel platform structure with incorporated pontoons that keeps it floating. The guys are not only great with structures, but also have taste for interiors. With large windows, open spaces, contemporary furniture, lots of wood and an amazing view of the lake, the floating house sounds like a great retreat for those hot summers, isn’t it?

Floating House in Ontario, Canada

I didn’t wanted to post new stuff on Freshome this Christmas, because these days I have a lot of things to do, especially a few books that I want to read ( 3 of them are already done ), but had to post about this unique Christmas tree idea created by Jane Schouten from All the Luck in the World. The Christmas Tree is made from useless but pretty objects that Jane collected over the years, and is a really unique idea for Christmas. Finally …is a little bit late, but Merry Christmas !

A Christmas Tree Like You’ve Never Saw Before

I never thought that a house with red and orange in excess could appeal that much. Outside of Daylesford in Victoria, Australia, the Wheatsheaf House by Jesse Judd draws inspiration from old plywood caravans and bus shelter. With simple lines and an amazing way of using steel, laminated glass and plywood cocoon, the house manages to blend really well with the striking natural scenery by adding to its beauty. Banyan Tree Resort in Corniche Bay

Luxurious living – something that we can’t afford but damn it we dream of it – it’s what this modern, three-storey house in Manhattan Beach, California, is all about. With a stunning view over the Palos Verdes Peninsula in Malibu, the house manages to pack a small but luxurious backyard in the tight space, a lush living space with large floor-to-ceiling windows, numerous skylights,  an amazing pool and an elevator – that’s a pretty high building out there.. Designed by MAP Development & Aidlin Darling Design, if you were asking, this dream house sells for $5.6 million.

Lavish Three-storey House in Manhattan Beach

Pebbles bring different style and atmosphere into your interior design, making it looked exclusive and interesting. Stone Drops Feeling is a bathroom design with a very natural feeling from Effepimarmi. A combination of transparent glass and lots of beautiful arranged pebbles create a very sophisticated and unique atmosphere. Pebbles + Transparent Glass in Your Bathroom : Stone Drops Feeling

This chair designed by Julia Krantz , a Brazil-based designer is a limited edition piece of furniture made from stack-laminated plywood and it was presented at Design Miami last week. Combining the design of wooden furniture with an environmental concern is one of the main characteristics of Julia Krantz’s work. Carefulness and fascination with nature are clearly apparent in her products as well as the rich variety of designs, forms and colors that the rainforest offers to the hands of the creative artist. – Via
