Colorful Home with a Charming Rustic Spirit

27 Apr

Rustic homes have an indefinable charm. For today we would like to showcase this two-level colorful house rehabilitated by Joaquin Diaz while respecting the traditional features of the initial building. According to Delikatissen, the first floor houses the common areas, a small bathroom and an apartment designed for guests who come visit. The bedrooms are on the top floor, around a common living room. Wood finishes such as wooden floors, beams and pillars connect the spaces. But the life of this project is given by its colorful decorations: Andy Warhol posters, playful pillows, original furniture items and beautiful flower arrangements- they all contribute to a vivid and fresh atmosphere.

Beautiful Family Home in San Francisco with a Rustic Charm

24 Apr

http://interiordesignsense.com/tag//

Feldman Architecture redecorated an old cottage in San Francisco and turned it into a beautiful family home. Here is the official description of the project from the developers: “One of the oldest houses in San Francisco’s Bernal Heights neighborhood, this 1860′s cottage sat in disrepair for years.’  Feldman Architecture’s charge was to repair, expand and modernize the small, dark house while maintaining the rustic charm of the original building. To accomplish this, the firm kept the facade and envelope of the existing structure and added a contemporary, but unobtrusive, addition:’  a narrow, ten-foot-wide wing that contains a garage, bedroom suite and studio office spaces on two levels. The roof and upper floor in the center of the house were cut away to create a central light core that washes a stone wall and illuminates the kitchen and living room. Large new windows create a connection with the backyard. Careful mixing of rough stone and wood with clean glass and metal breathes new life into the once-neglected structure”. Have a look at the photos and get inspired!

Unconventional Structure with Unusual Space Delimitation: The Pittman Dowell Residence

19 Apr

http://interiordesignsense.com/tag//

With a contemporary look and minimalist features, the Pittman Dowell Residence is a nonconventional structure that takes full advantage of modern technology and design. The couple living here, Lari Pittman and his partner, Roy Dowell, is non-traditional and this is the exact feeling that the building had to convey. Architect Michael Maltzan was challenged to find the balance between beauty and functionality and between shape and space. The inhabitants asked Maltzan to “disrupt and dismantle the hierarchy of spaces” and so the polygonal residence ended up having no doors to delimitate the space. An internal courtyard ensures both light and privacy, while the oval skylight in the master bathroom focuses the attention on a beautiful old pine tree. An open living room offers panoramas of the city through large windows and the modern delimitation of space allows each room to interact with the next in a spiralling motion. Beautiful and futuristic, the Pittman Dowell residence is an example of how desire and need shape our homes, don’t you think?

Beautiful Contemporary One-Storey Villa in The Netherlands

18 Apr

http://interiordesignsense.com/tag//

Completed in 2010, Villa Frenay was designed by 70F Architecture and is located in Almere, the Netherlands. Here is a description from the architects: “To break the flat polder landscape, the roof of the living / dining room is slightly sloping. At the non-waterfront (north) of the house there are the children’s rooms with their bathroom, a utility room and the living room. The existing artificial ‘hills’ on the premises we accentuated, and the carport with storage room is half buried in one of them. The sauna with garden shed is placed on another hill, and is the highest of the three buildings. From the sauna is a view over a Cor-Ten steel waterfall that runs along the open-air terrace at the gable of the house, sloping towards the water feature that runs along the plot. With the spread of the buildings, a residential area is created, more than a house with outbuildings. The transparency and direction can be seen in the interior, providing the ultimate inside – outside experience, emphasized by the slopes on the plot”. According to Home DSGN, the overall budget for this one level villa was €460,000. Seems like a fair cost ?

Inspiring Looking Penthouse with Billiard Living Room in New York

14 Apr

http://interiordesignsense.com/tag//

Christodora Penthouse was designed by Lyn Rice Architects and is located in New York According to the architects, the renovation of this apartment “involved the clarification and update of the space’s material and programmatic logics. The penthouse’s north, winter zone is a warm, intimate area organized around the apartment’s existing hearth. The south summer zone transitions to a larger, loft space designed to accommodate large gatherings and is accessed through a thickened bar-wall containing a wet bar/wine storage, while concealing new service and storage areas that serve the adjacent formal dining area. A 55-foot long, cool grey bamboo panel wall with radiused corners lines the summer zone, a section of which pivots opens to soften the scale of the space for smaller groups and enhances the mood of the dining and recreation areas. The open wall reveals its soft back-side and inner lining of tufted faux ostrich, transforming the southernmost space into a club room for billiard play.” Freshome readers, how do you like tufted indoor panels?

13 Apr

http://interiordesignsense.com/tag//

When it comes to Scandinavian apartments, the living room always draws attention due to spectacular details. For today we decided to prove that Northern cribs have a lot more to offer than amazing socializing areas. This is why we gathered 30 incredible looking bedrooms that are welcoming and not to mention inspiring. Even though they are all unique, we noticed some similar elements that are worth bringing up. First off, all the bedrooms in the photos below feature large windows that are usually covered by stylish window blinds or subtle curtains. On each side of the king-size bed there are traditional night tables, original shelving units or chairs. The walls are painted mostly in white, but here and there you will notice an interesting color disruption: some of the bedrooms have fresh wallpapers that liven up the room. The lighting details are particularly interesting to observe. We invite you to have a look at this beautiful bedroom gallery and let us know what details you find interesting.

Coffee Table Inspired by a Photo Album: Remembrance by Micth Steinmetz

11 Apr

http://interiordesignsense.com/tag//

Micth Steinmetz recently came up with an original coffee table design. Resembling a giant photo album, this table is a unique addition to any living room, adding personality and creativity. According to the designer, “the photo album preserves memories, giving life to past events and emotions. Remembrance combines the social interaction of family gatherings with the nostalgia and enjoyment of remembering the past. Instead of acting as a liaison’  between the user and their entertainment, Remembrance becomes the source of’  entertainment. It creates new memories while simultaneously cataloging and cherishing old ones”. We don’t know about you guys, but the only “fault” we could find in this design is the fact that it is a bit inaccessible when it comes to cleaning and dusting. Otherwise, let the coffee and nostalgia flow!
