Cathedral Made of Trash Nearly Completed

20 Jan

Not everyone can build a cathedral whenever he or she pleases but it looks like a former Spanish monk has started to build his own cathedral 50 years ago. The catch here is that he used a lot of salvaged materials and trash in order to erect it and now, half a century later, we’re looking at a nearly completed project. And that’s despite the fact the former monk never had a building permit although it would appear that he’s trying to get the right paperwork done in order to have this place of worship available to the public. The whole project is certainly daring considering that we’re looking at an eco-friendly initiative that started long before we took recycling seriously. Anyone up for a visit at this yet unnamed cathedral of trash? Via Inhabitat

For a lot of luxury and a little drama, this stylish modern chandelier by Modani will be a spectacular focal point in your home. This Baroque ceiling light, the Black Moon Medusa Chandelier, features a seductive candelabra frame concealed behind a sheer black shade. Clear crystals dangle and sparkle like jewelry from underneath. This soiree is black tie! This chandelier has a rich, romantic look that’s still contemporary (not an easy-to-accomplish balance). Artfully blending stylistic elements of old and new, this modern light fixture will look stunning suspended above the dining table or bar. Cheers! Also see these stylish floor lamps. The Monster Chair Brings Its Own Storage Space

2 Jan

We’re just about to show you the third chair of this first Sunday of the New Year, but considering all the partying is over a chair and some resting might be exactly what the doctor order. And the third chair of the day is a Monster Chair. No, really, that’s its name, and you’ll understand in a minute why it bears that name. The Monster Chair has an impressive pose since it brings its own storage space wherever it may go. That’s why this particular chair looks a lot bigger and definitely more massive at first sight than it actually is, although once you sit on it you’ll realize it feels just like a regular sized chair. And that storage section underneath the seating area might come in handy and help you unclutter your home office. Via Jinyoung Studio

The Dynamic Kitchen Is the Star of Your Modern Home

30 Dec

The Dynamic Kitchen, as portrayed in the images below, is a lot more than your average-looking kitchen. The Dynamic Kitchen is the next-generation of modern kitchens, and it’s meant to significantly improve the way you actually use that particular space of a house. The Dynamic Kitchen is going to offer you plenty of space for your daily kitchen chores. There’s enough room for cooking and cleaning, but once all that is done the Dynamic Kitchen can come to life as the soul of the party. The whole space can act as a modern bar that will suit any special occasion you happen to host and it will surely get noticed immediately by your guests. Last, but not least, the Dynamic Kitchen won the Design Awards in London 2010, which is one more reason you should consider this design for your next modern kitchen. Via dmkitchen

Philippe Starck Designs Walter Wayle 11 Clock For Alessi

28 Dec

French product designer Philippe Starck draws a lot of criticism from certain sections of the A&D community for lending his design prowess to mass produced consumer goods. While some may accuse him of commercialization, personally I feel it is a good way for the average consumer to own a Starck without breaking the bank! He has designed the Walter Wayle 11 Clock for Alessi and it is definitely one of the most evolved wall clocks I have come across. The veritable effort by Starck to design something that assuages the monotonous is palpable and so his signature style. The Walter Wayle 11 Clock can be ordered online from Nest Living where it is selling for $78.00 and the price includes shipping charges.

The Zim Chair Looks a Lot More Fragile Than It Looks

27 Dec

The Zim Chair is a fun little project that proposes us a seating solution made entirely out of a metal. Why is the Zim Chair made of metal? Well in order to sustain the weight of the human body, especially considering the particular design chosen for this chair’s seat and back rest, the Zim simply has to be made out of something tough, like metal. The Zim Chair looks really fragile, but it will certainly be able to accommodate you a lot better and safer than you expect. The Zim Chair also happens to look pretty interesting to the eye so I won’t blame you if you’re considering getting at least a pair of Zims for a certain room or outdoor area of your mansion. The Balloon Bench Would Float If Those Balloons Were Real

5 Dec

Admit it, the bench concept below is definitely interesting. The fake balloons that are actually used to support this Balloon Bench look very real, but then again, that’s the whole point of a great design, isn’t it? The Balloon Bench has been conceived by h220430, a Japanese design company, and while it might be harder for you to actually match it with the rest of your modern furniture, this seating solution will certainly not go unnoticed. In fact all of your guests will want to try it out and I bet they would ask a lot of questions about the mechanism that makes the Balloon Bench levitate. All you have to do is order yours and bolt it to the ceiling first! Via h220430

Narnia-like Secret Game Room Is a Great Gift Idea For Your Kids

24 Nov

In case you have children then you have probably watched the Narnia adventures a bunch of times already and in case you are planning to have kids at some point, then you’ll surely watch it a lot too. But what you haven’t probably done yet is to build a secret game room based on the Narnia movie. As you can see in the images below the closet there looks like a simple closet but it is actually a magic portal to another universe, the perfect room for your kids to play in. This do-it-yourself project seems pretty easy to make although you’d probably need to redesign a bunch of rooms of your current home in order to bring the Narnia universe to your children. In case this gift idea, although great, sounds too complicated then you’ll have to figure a different way to offer them a piece of Narnia. Via Dornob
