Interior Design Sense

Hats off to Jake Phipps for these fun, quirky hat table lamps called Jeeves. Similar to the Jeeves & Wooster hat pendant lights, the table lamp, instead, has a minimal base which supports the classic bowler hat. It’s even adjustable, so you can ‘tip’ you hat for control of light direction. Sweet, right? But they’re also pretty stylish, and their simple design makes them appealing for modern spaces. The base is made of steel and the shade is made of a wool felt with an anodised aluminum lining. The interior has a champagne color finish, giving it an appropriate little glam vibe. We love them. Love it. I adore the way the black anchors all the white. The built in furniture is a stroke of genius as far as space planning in a narrow apartment goes and I also love the way they used extra space, i.e. the sunroom and the bedroom built in, to buffer the Spanish heat. I’m moving in!

Love the simplicity of this door, which provides an emergency shelter during an earthquake. It collapses from the center to form a reinforced tent, under which you can huddle till the shockwaves subside. This door can be any door in the house and office. And if for a moment we keep aesthetics aside, just imagine how many people it can end up benefitting. Love it!

I fell in love with the style of cosmetic heiress Aerin Lauder when I featured the Lauder family estate in Palm Beach last year.  I was very excited to come across her Hamptons home in Wainscott, New York in Vogue.  With the same traditional elegance infused with modern comforts as her family’s home in Florida, Lauder’s country home is lovely and elegant, yet oh so comfortable.  Don’t you just want to dive into that cheetah sofa?  I love the personal touches throughout the home…signed photograph from Grace Kelly to her grandmother, Estee (your home has one of those too, right?), knick knacks from her young sons strewn throughout the kitchen (if you have young children, you know sports equipment and homework assignments become decorator accessories), and a framed letter from her grandmother next to her bed.  The home, like Lauder herself, is effortlessly stunning.

Going weak knees outta love and romance is a good thing, but when age (or aching gym-tired muscles) catches up, even simple tasks like sitting on the toilet seat become a pain. The Stand-helping Closestool Toilet Seat features a seat with a hydraulic-powered lever function, which helps you to stand up with ease. I’d be more comfortable if the design included a hand rail to stabilize the standing-up process. Tippling over will be such a shame!
