Stalking in New Zealand

12 Dec

^

It’s Spring in New Zealand (lucky b*stards) and Sammy, a Kiwi and regular reader of this here blog kindly sent along some more links to homes there as the market is “exploding with gorgeous summery homes” as she put it. *still hatin’* One of the homes she linked to, located in Auckland, caught my attention. It’s got some odd decor choices here and there but overall I think the owners did a great job. I love the kitchen and the exterior is adorable (we don’t really have cute houses here in Ottawa). Link while it lasts. Thanks Sammy!

Teri Lyn Fisher

When is too much of a good thing … well … just too much? Never in the case of über stylist James Leland Day. It would be fair to say that Kim and I have been known to worship at the altar of his talent. (See previous sychophantic posts here and here.) How can we help ourselves? The work is inspiring. Honestly the man is still a genius.

Displaying Exquisite Architectural Details: Port Townsend Residence

29 Apr

http://interiordesignsense.com/tag//

Port Townsend Residence was designed by the architects from Bohlin Cywinski Jackson and is located in Washington. The house has amazing views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca as well as of the Olympic Mountains. Here is some information from the developers about the project: “Varied materials, from refined to rustic, reduce the scale of the 3200 square foot building and articulate each volume. A line of exposed steel structure and a series of wood columns extend the length of the slender building, supporting’  laminated wood beams and rafters. The primary spaces of the home are to the west’  of the columns, oriented to take advantage of the expansive views. The high roof over the living room slopes upward to take advantage of natural’  daylight. A fireplace made of concrete block anchors this room and serves both interior and exterior living spaces. A lower volume clad in reclaimed barnwood houses the kitchen and sunroom, and frames views of a garden“. What do you think the advantages of living in this uncommon retreat are?

Simple Home with Beautiful Rustic Elements in Poland

26 Apr

http://interiordesignsense.com/tag//

This beautiful home comes from architects Damian Cyryl Kotwicki and is located in Warsaw, Poland, on a site of 560 square meters. Seen on Plataforma Arquitectura, the house was designed based on functional and simple lines. A mix of brick, wood and concrete gives the residence a warm and appealing appearance. On the ground floor there is a spacious two-car garage and an open area for spending family time during the day. There is also a kitchen, a lounge and a lobby with a beautiful spiral staircase, which is the focal point of the living zone. On the top floor above the living room there are two bedrooms with bathrooms for residents and potential visitors. After all, what more could a young family need? Have a look at the incredible interior design of this place and let us know if you think there is anything missing.

An Original Design: Transparent Chair by Nendo

14 Apr

http://interiordesignsense.com/tag//

Transparent Chair is a project envisioned by Japanese design firm Nendo and was created in order to serve as a relaxing seating unit. According to the designers, you are looking at “a chair made with polyurethane film, a transparent film commonly used as a packing material for precision instruments and products susceptible to vibrations and shock, thanks to its high elasticity and ability to return to its original state. Looking at the chair, it seems to consist of nothing but a backrest and armrests. It wraps and supports the body like a hammock, providing a light, floating feeling for the sitter“. Found on Oh Gizmo!, the design will be exhibited during Milan Design Week 2011 at Galleria Jannone. What do you think? Fun, odd or both? ( images ‘© Masayuki Hayashi )

Handmade Vogue Magazine Cover: A Cool Decorating Item?

14 Apr

Artist Inge Jacobsen came up with the creative idea of hand stitching Vogue cover magazines. The unusual project is part of the artist’s final degree show taking place in June this year. As for us, we like to think of his works as fun and creative decorative items, especially for the cribs of young bachelorettes. The items are said to be exactly the size of a Vogue cover. This makes perfect sense when considering that Inge over-stitches the real cover.’  He says it takes about 2 week, working 2-3 hours a day to finish a cover. This proves that with the right image and plenty of thread, one can do some pretty amazing things. Freshome readers, what do you think of the artist’s work?
