Tamzin Greenhill

2 Aug

Tamzin Greenhill is an interior designer based in New York and special projects editor for Elle Décor magazine. I am a fan of her designs – timeless and somewhat classic yet with a slight edge and a touch of sophistication. Spaces you could entertain in that would wow your friends. I’m a bit surprised at how smitten I am with the first photo. Such a simple kitchen yet had a subtle chic vibe…

The Hampton Designer Showhouse 2011

21 Jul

This weekend is the opening of’ The Hampton Designer’ Showhouse which is not only the best showhouse of the year, but also includes one of my favorite design teams, Tilton Fenwick, who created one of the most stunning “rec rooms” i’ve seen in ages.’  This, of course, is my opinion only from the few photos I’ve seen’ online so I can only imagine what it looks like in person.’  I can’t wait to get in there and take it all in!’  The show opens’ this Sunday, July 24 and is open through September 4.’  If you’re looking for inspiration or simply something to do this summer, I highly suggest making the trip to Bridgehampton

1224 Scuttle Hole Road, Bridgehamtpon, NY

Alex Profit

14 Jul

French photographer Alex Profit emailed us recently about his new web site tastyhotels.com (an al dente selection of hotels, guests house, self-catering…), but I was too awe-struck with his portfolio to really get into it (…yet – perhaps that’s for a future post). His composition is mesmerizing, the spaces are simple and gorgeous and I love the mostly muted colour palettes. P.S. As soon as I finish typing this sentence I am putting that first faucet photo into my bathroom inspiration folder.

Nathan and Brandi’s bedroom makeover

6 May

Nathan, a photographer in Edmonton Alberta, wanted to share the bedroom makeover that him and his wife Brandi executed – to perfection! It’s my favourite colour scheme – and he even included a gratuitous cat-on-the-bed photo. :-)
It’s been months in the making. We’ve been working away, slowly but surely, trying to refinishing our bedroom. Unfortunately I don’t have any ‘before’ pictures, but it definitely didn’t look like this! Picture beige walls, no curtains and black bedding. Horrible.

Nathan and Brandis bedroom makeover

I refinished these small tables myself a couple months back. They were espresso brown with boring knobs, so I painted them a warm white, antiqued them a bit and found some great new hardware. Simple, cheap, effective :)

For me, the black wall, even though it’s lovely, does not match the chandelier and the green carpet/rug on the first photo. But I love how the sofa accentuated the bed in the last photo. It’s a mix and match kinda thing.

I also love the rattan chair – it’s unique and it can also be used as a table.

Isil’s bedroom corner

27 Apr

This is one of a few posts I’ve got ready to publish through out the day. I think I am so stoked to finally have time to devote to the blog again instead of studying that I thought I’d get a whole bunch of reader submissions done. This first one comes from Isil of the blog decologue. She lives in the Lower Normandy region in France and wanted to share a photo of what’s next to her bed. The artwork is a present from an architect friend. The hanger is from Casa, the necklace is made by my mum, the bedside table and lamps body are from flea markets, i painted the table to blue. The rug is composed by 4 small mats that i bought each for 2 euros. The lampshade is from Habitat. So cute!!

Historic Convent Near Paris Turned into Modern Home

22 Apr

http://interiordesignsense.com/tag//

We’ve got some great feedbacks from you every time we posted’  unusual home conversions. Turning a church or a monastery into a living space is a complex and challenging process. Today’s project, LeCouvent-Loft, is located North of Paris in Val-d’Oise and is in fact an old convent (dating back to the 18th century) turned into a contemporary place to live. The new “loft” has an area of 2,475 square feet and features impressive modern arrangements that you could otherwise find in luxurious penthouses. With a vivid and eye-catching chromatic, when inside, no one could possibly guess this building’ former usage. And if you are interested in knowing how this convent looked centuries ago – in 1769, have a look at the last photo of the post and compare. Freshome readers, what is your stand when it comes to turning old castles and religious institutions into modern living spaces? Historic Convent Near Paris Turned into Modern Home
