Herniman Interiors

28 Jan

I would give anything to have the entrance to my home look like the photo above. Rustic, aged, charming, inviting. Then you walk in and are wowed by the modern conversion of the interior. YESSSSS. Via Australian firm Herniman Interiors. (A couple photos added on the end are of another one of their projects).

Stalking an inner city apartment

21 Jan

Stalking a beautifully renovated art deco era apartment in Sydney’s Rushcutters Bay. Open flow living and dining with clever wrap around kitchen. Sunny, bright and all white the space is warmed by the use of timber benchtops with a dash of red in the backsplash as focus. Everything is sleek and clean lined with minimal furniture and art. Something annoys me though. The large piece of leather carelessly wrapped around the couch. Deliberate wabi sabi? Haven’t sent the couch out to be upholstered yet? Forgot to straighten it before the photo shoot? It’s driving me crazy in the otherwise zen like apartment. Link here while it lasts.

Getting creative with a chair

This SO makes me want to buy a cheap chair at a thrift shop and dig out my sharpies. Photo via Mel Yates

Anders Jungermark

14 Jan

I thought I’d start the week off with a bang. I came across the portfolio of Swedish phtoographer Anders Jungermark recently and was completely wowed with every single photo. His composition, lighting, focus and post processing are perfection. He could shoot a rock and I would be in awe. But you didn’t come here to see rocks. :)

Monday’s pets on furniture – part 2

7 Jan

If you’d like to send me photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow my basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy then it may not make the cut. Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim@hotmail.com and PLEASE don’t send closeups of your pet! Thanks!

I received a pet entry from Annik that included so many photos of her pets – mostly rescued cats and dogs that she fosters – that I thought these animals needed their own post. Annik’s home is beautiful, and the animals she has saved look like they are living the easy-going life they finally deserve.

LeSueur Interiors

19 Dec

Meg Lonergan of LeSueur Interiors is an interior designer from Houston whose designs are classic, totally liveable and timeless. Meg’s eye for mixing the old with the new, the classic with inventive, fine antiques paired with flea market finds; are molded from her experiences living abroad in Singapore, New Zealand and Paris as well as her travels all over the world. Her intuitive southern flair and international sensitivity can be seen clearly in her interiors, forming eclectic and creatively fresh concepts. I loooove those Asian armoires in the photo above, and who knew black in a baby’s room could look so good?

Stalking an old Dame on King St in Queenscliff

9 Dec

It’s no secret that I like old houses. Old weatherboard houses with verandahs and tongue and groove walls tick my boxes particularly. Throw in a corrugated iron roof, a fabulous garden, dark timber floors and a sympathetic modern extension and I would be signing a contract quick smart. Stalking a charming old home in Queenscliff, Victoria. The various decks and the flow to the garden – wonderful! Pity I am only stalking and not actually moving in. (Check out the before photo the owners have included in the listing. The old girl has scrubbed up well!) Link here while it lasts.
