Another project by Charles de Lisle

20 Aug

Not too long ago I blogged about a mid-century style California ranch designed by Charles de Lisle. I find his work and the photographs in his portfolio so impressive and since I’m taking a lazy holiday week here on the blog while gallavanting around Prince Edward Island, I thought I’d feature another of his projects. This time a mountain retreat in Montana. I wouldn’t mind a little vacation here either.

Peter Margonelli

14 Jul

New Yorker Peter Margonelli can manipulate natural light in amazing ways. The resulting photographs are impactful and full of life. I was smitten with the photo above – nothing like pets on furniture to reel you in! (Check out a previous post of Peter’s work here, and be sure to have a look at his ‘blurs’ landscape photo…so lovely).

Bigger is Better

3 Jun

{Buckingham ID}

Have you noticed oversized wall decor popping up all over magazines, website, magazines, designer’s projects, the blogsphere…etc?  This trend seems to indicate that larger is better at the moment, or at least the customer/client favors the big and the bold.  From paintings to mirrors to series of framed photographs and unique pieces of wall art, oversized wall decor is very chic without being too trendy.  I think this decor may stick around for a while, and even if you hop on the bandwagon now, it won’t likely be passe by this time next year.  It seems to be especially popular in the dining room.  Is there that one wall adjacent to your table that just doesn’t seem to get it right?  Try out a larger than life piece of decor…it just might be the solution to your wall problem!

Ray Main

26 May

Beautiful images of beautiful rooms. Strangely calm, restrained and elegant in their simplicity these photographs are by British photographer Ray Main. People often ask why we go on and on about the photographer and not the designer or owner. Besides the fact that we will always acknowledge the site where we find the images we use, it is the photographer that captures the beauty of the room for us to see and fall in love with. I’m sure that if we all traipsed through these rooms we’d love what we saw (after several thousand of us had trampled through) but because we can’t artists like Ray transport us there, we gasp and mentally note all we love and Ray’s job is done. He has captured all that inspires us. He has communicated the beauty. So much more after the jump.

Modern Art

22 Apr

Often times you’ll look around your room and wonder what’s missing.  The furniture is there, the window treatments are up, the rug is down and it’s feeling cozy but not quite complete.  Chances are you’re missing the one element that brings it all together.  ART!  I’ve been eyeing this one photograph in a small coffee shop on Bleeker Street and I’m just waiting for the perfect client to sell it to.  It’s by photographer Frank Louis and can be found in his Italy collection.

I also have a client who recently purchased a few David Burdeny prints from Lumas gallery in NYC which you can also buy online.  Take a look at his collection to see which colors work best with your decor.

I found a few addtional artists and photographs i also like from Lumas Gallery for those of you who want a modern edge!

I love this last series for a beach house

Shower Curtains Imprinted With Famous World Destinations

26 Mar

Traveling nowadays has become a common trend. Tourism and promotion are two industries that go hand in hand in creating famous destinations, known worldwide. The idea you see illustrated in the pictures below is not all that bad actually. Classic black and white photographs of famous cities around the world were gathered up in a collection and used to make these curtains stand out. London, Rio de Janeiro, Venice, Paris and Las Vegas are just a few of the major cities featured in these designs. This is a pretty cool initiative and also a simple way to change how a bathroom looks. The original shower curtains measure 72″x72″ and can be purchased online here at a price of $29.-via Holycool.net

Douglas Friedman

4 Mar

The last time we featured Douglas Friedman’s work a few comments popped up revealing that not only are his photographs gorgeous but he’s a looker too. (I think the word was hot.) Having googled for photos of Douglas I can now confirm the veracity of the comments but more importantly ;) it’s obvious from these new shots that Mr Friedman is still one super talented snapper. Favourites? The minimalist white rooms that thanks to the wonderful lighting are warm and inviting. The man has a fabulous eye!

Tim Beddow

26 Feb

Whether it’s portraying the freshness of a contemporary space or revealing the aged splendor of a country farmhouse, I can’t get enough of the soft light and gentle beauty of Tim Beddow’s photographs. He understands the individuality of these homes. Definitely not cookie cutter. Soft shadows, bright light, rich colour and texture, beautiful rough texture. Tim captures it all.
