Monday’s pets on furniture – part 2

25 Jan

If you’d like to send us photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow our basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. (Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture…and your pet happens to be sitting on it). And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s REALLY dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos can be sent to desiretoinspirekim@hotmail.com and PUHLEASE don’t just send me closeups of your pet!!!)

Lucy’s favorite position for nylabone chewing is half on – half off the ottoman to my Saarinen womb chair. Some may be outraged that I let this happen but I finally just accepted that I live in Lucy’s house, she doesn’t live in mine.
- Laura

I couldn’t resist sending you a shot of 5-month old Boomer on my favourite chair – a garage sale find if you can believe it! (the chair, not the cat ;) There is a matching table that I use as a vanity in our bathroom. The gold tones really pop against our white walls. Thankfully, the fabric on the chair has not been appealing to Boomer’s claws… yet!
- Kristi

Milo was free, and this wonderful chair was only $10 (first image).  Since then, the chair has cost me $400 to completely re-do (second image) after her love for it made the white trim dingy and the foam pillows flat, further, she chewed off the back corner, and Milo has cost me … well, she’s priceless so we won’t embarrass her with the figure.
- Ann

Some pictures from me again, love your pets on furniture ;) Also a cat in the wintergarden on a bench ;)
- GundaM

Here are photos of my dog Miro and my cat Paprika on the living room sofa. No wonder I have dog and cat’s hair all over my clothes! ;-) In the first photo: Looks like something is happening outside…! In the next one: Relaxing time!
- Danielle

Here is our puppy Abbie on her very favorite spot – one of our living room chairs.  The chairs were handed down from my great-grandparents and we recovered them before adopting Abbie.  We love how she matches the fabric so perfectly!
- Cami

Sorry for flooding your inbox. Sending pictures is hell with a University e-mail account!
- Johanna

Here are a few shots of Cheyenne, our 3-year-old, dark brindle, retired racing greyhound on our ancient Ikea Tomelilla couch.
- Monica

This is my pet on furniture
- Tzippi

The pets on furniture section always makes me smile and I’ve wanted to submit photos of my Shih Tzu, Nikita for some time. The snag in my plan? Nikita dashes away whenever her radar picks up a camera in the room. Here are some paparazzi shots taken while she was napping in a Pottery Barn chair she rarely lounges in.
- Reese

One picture is from several years back.  We find Trofast storage units are handy for storing so many things….miscellaneous toys, books, pets and even children! The other picture is of our now much older doggie Guinness on an even older Jacques and Hayes chair.
- Sarah

The first photo is of my dear Lady Stardust (aka: Monorail) on what was a heck-of-a-deal 3 piece living room set, beside my favorite vintage lamp. The other is my little man, Ziggy Stardust, on our barn wood table which I found road-side in downtown Toronto. See the cookie jar? His catfood. Both of these pics were taken on Ziggy and Lady’s FIRST BIRTHDAY! As you tell, it was quite the party ;)
- Vikki

I have sent you a picture of my cat, Fat Albert on this same couch before, but here is one of 3 of my pets all on the couch together.  (l-r: Abby, Peach, and Fat Albert– all rescue animals).

Love your pets on furniture entries. Here’s my two… (considering a tub is a piece of furniture ; ) This is our adore bulldog, Tottenham. He’s obviously King of the Castle.

- Shannon

Please find attached two images of my new puppy, Ruby, on an ‘upcycled’ chair made by a friend and her new business called S.H.E which revamps old, unwanted pieces of furniture in Sydney. Ruby is an Australian desert rescue dog whom we’ve had for only a week and who isn’t actually allowed on the furniture (which is why she’s looking at me quite quizzically!) but she colour coordinates quite well, don’t you think? Ruby was found as a newborn in a rubbish bin (hence her name) and was rescued by a Chilean woman who runs a dog rescue programme in an Aboriginal community in the Northern Territory (www.warlu.com). Image two also shows my grandfather’s Saratoga trunk and a bowl by well-known New Zealand potter Royce McGlashen.
- Jane

Here are two pics of our dog, Maizey, and her couch. She’s recently given up her Poang chair & upgraded to the couch where, if she’s not sleeping, she’s standing on the arm looking out the window.
- Ashleigh

So, this is my Brussels Griffon, Mac. He’s on the ottoman that matches the sofa you can see in the background. We live in Sandringham, Auckland. The sofa is made by a local manufacturer, Forma, if that is is any interest!
- Melinda

Charlie the cavachon is the queen atop her plush throne…also known as a couch. She often slips through the cushions or goes head first looking for a lost bone. She also likes to survey the room from the top of the recliner.”
- Christi

This is Aurora (a Shiba Inu) enjoying her cow and her perch on one of our awesome thrift store finds.
- Cassandra

I’m sending these photos in honor of my cat, Cooper, who passed away on December 22.  Here he is testing out my new (at the time) Eames chair.  He couldn’t get comfortable, so he soon gave up and returned to his favorite spots on the couch.
- Erica

I saw this post on Martha, sorry about her yellow eyes in the sofa photo…they are actually hazel ;)
- Jaime

Here is a picture of our adorable chihuahua Henri sleeping on the bed. Hope to see him next Monday on your blog, he’s a big fan (plus I’m really proud of the bed itself that I have found in the middle of nowhere in a farm!).
- Maryse

Doggies and white do not match nor do they coincide but I guess in this situation it does!
- May

This is my love of life, Louis. He loves seating on the nicest chair of the house.”
- Mimi

We have finally lifted out ‘no pets on furniture’ rule. We had to sacrifice one chair to our Rhodesian Ridgeback Hank. You can walk right by him in this chair and never notice he is there. He just blends in. And our Border Collie Emma claims the loveseat.
- Misty

Not only is that my bed, but it’s MY pillow! I especially like Marvin’s expression – ‘um, excuse me…I’m trying to sleep!’ I have noticed that most of my pictures of Marvin are of him on the furniture. Dogs these days :)
- Nicole

Christian (who’s cat I featured in last week’s pet post) sent us an email explaining how the LA Times ran this story a few days ago about how desperate the shelters in LA are for donations to pay for food, as they used to rely on corporate donations which are pratically non-existent now with the recession. To raise awareness he’s posted the photo below of his dog Mona on his blog and provided some info as to how dire the situation is. So please check out his post or the LA Times article to get details on how you can help all the poor animals (over 4,000) that are likely to be euthanized for no other reason than there is no money to feed and care for them. Thank you.

I really enjoy your blog, and think the “pets on furniture” column is so funny. I wanted to submit a few pictures of my Border Collie Rescue ‘Mazie’ sitting on my vintage Knoll desk chair. Every time I get up from my desk, she hops up and sits down for a rest……I really wish she would get some of my work done for me while she’s up there!
- Christie

I really appreciate your Pet’s on Furniture posts; love to see my 2 passions together: furniture and pets. Here are some photos for you: Olive loves hanging out in her Kartell Componibili. It’s a well designed hiding spot.
- Stephanie

I love your Pets on Furniture feature, but didn’t think I’d ever have a photo to send because we’ve been pretty strict about limiting our greyhounds to their own beds. But when Otis claimed the fainting couch soon after coming home with us last November, I knew it would only be a matter of time…
- Amy

I am enclosing a photo of my three cats Mahley, Scullie and Gustav on my aptly named “Big Animal” sofa from BluDot.
- Laura

This is my puppy, Starla, with Bear, sitting on my couch that my dad hates. It has a tree of life and a frigate on it, what’s not to love?
- Cindy

Please choose your fav- The girlzzzz look a little like conjoined twins on the cowhide and leather chair in our family room :) They are Wheaten Terriers- Jane being the taller and sitting up in the above mentioned chair image. Frankie is the bad girl standing on the dining table- looks guilty doesn’t she?!
- Julia

My mischievous kitten Olive has found her favourite chair in the house, which also happens to be my favourite piece, our Louis XVI style chair.  Olive and ‘Louis’ enjoy the afternoon sun together beside my vintage writing desk.
- Sophie

I would like to submit some photos of my dog, Otis on furniture. The first two are of him on his “throne,” and the last two are from when I hosted Thanksgiving in our tiny apartment last year. He has a way of sneaking into every photo I take.
- Lindsey

This is Ruffle, my friend Laura’s sweet kitten.  She was rescued from a public park in Brooklyn, NY a few short weeks ago, and she likes to lounge anywhere from cardboard box beds to Laura’s upholstered antiques.
- Bridget

Too cool for school my siamese Kuzya didn’t even bother to look up while I was taking pictures. Figures, being chased after by a crawling little monster-baby is WORK :)
- Nataliya

Moose on the club chair (his breed is called Hungarian Vizsla). He just needs a fine single malt in one paw and a hand rolled cuban in the other.
- Victoria

it was suggested to me by a townhouse lady’s life that i submit richard to you…
- Christian

My friend’s dog Chie whom I was pet sitting – seems she felt right at home on my bed!
- Jessica

This is my Boston Terrier, Cooper, looking handsome on his favorite patio chair.
- Meredith

I thought I’d slide a photo in here I took on Friday of one of my herd, Mimin. She jumped into one of the Expedit shelving units in my bedroom while I was taking photos of some rearranging I had done.

As I was reading your blog on Monday, I realized that I have never grabbed a shot of my Coton de Tulear, Libby, who loves to lounge on anything mid-century modern (really she loves to lounge on anything) for your blog feature.  I grabbed my camera from the bag and snapped off a shot of her relaxing in her favorite Vladimir Kagan chair. She always prefers the one on the left – go figure.
- Lora

Smokey on my green Moroccan pouf.”
- Jessica

Digby, positioned on his look out point- an old chair that my Grandparents kept from their 50′s bungalow-aided by an antique peacock pillow. I don’t know how he can sit there for so long- it always looks SO uncomfortable.
- Maeve

This is Piper, our tiny Golden Retriever, on “her” – our Ikea Poang.  Piper adopted the Poang shortly after we adopted her.  She isn’t normally allowed on our furniture – she has a congenital condition called megaesophagus which means basically that she can’t swallow her food properly without a lot of help, making her a very messy puppy to have on a couch…  But she staked out the chair so early on that we have happily surrendered it to her.
- Alexis

I really wanted to send you a photo of my beautiful dog who took half of my sofa simply to look graceful on it!
- Agata

There are two photo about my lovely maine coon cats: Kyra the smaller, and Dió the bigger….they very like sleeping in my hungarian retro-room…:) This is just half-ready now,but they very like it…:)
– Zytuscicus from Hungary

One of your loyal readers, Murray, the Bassett Hound-Beagle mix, would consider it a great honor to be included in a Pets on Furniture blog entry. Defying his English roots, he’s partial to Gustavian design and its stark color palette, and he absolutely loves this chair salvaged from a church basement sale for $5, and then upholstered in an austere grey.
- Jennifer

This is Cisco. He is a feline at heart.
- Hilary

This is fun. I couldn’t resist. Here is Gracie on what she believes is her couch.  It is, isn’t it?
- Naomi

Cooper helps out in the home office.
- Lori

Here are photos of my two-year old Italian Greyhound, Nick. These are the “off-limits” white chairs. The rest is self-explanatory.
- Carson

Miss Bitsy Bojangles caught on the good chair!
- Delia

1-Raleigh relaxing in our bedroom with a mid-century chair in the background.
2-Here is a fitting photo of him on a MCM Danish chair imported by Selig. He and our daughter are constantly fighting for position in the chair. They never let the seat get cold!

- The Pages

I’m attaching a photo of my crooked-thumbed cat, Smudge, under the table at my old apartment – I had just kicked her off the top where she doesn’t belong so she was trying to be cute to make up for her bad behavior. The second photo is in case the first one doesn’t qualify since it’s such a close shot {I prefer the first one}.  This was her “window seat” she reluctantly shared with my vintage lucite pineapple lamp, but I had just moved in so there were no draperies yet.
- Jeanine

Here’s our ham Jack, relaxing on my $10 garage sale find that I recovered in some Jack coordinating faux cowhide.
- Lindsay

This is Chloe(left) and Liam, doing what setters do best: claiming the furniture as their own.
- Kathleen

i have been following dti for almost 2 years now and just wanted to share a photo of my pekingese Donut who passed away a couple of years ago. he was the love of my life….

Two Cushions Held in a Metal Frame called Frame Sofa

Two Cushions Held in a Metal Frame called Frame Sofa

Designed by Korean designer Hyung Suk Cho and called the Frame Sofa this piece of furniture consists of two cushions held in a metal frame. The seating is made of stainless steel tubes and fabric upholstery. This design is pretty basic, and I don’t even know what the designer actually designed, because he just took two cushions and put them in a metal frame. Besides being very simple this design is also very uncomfortable I think. So what is your opinion about the Frame Sofa ? Is something that you could also design ? – Via – Dezeen

Great Furniture Solution (Idea) for Small Places

9 May

Varie Vanity designed by G. Azzarello for Porada, is what I call a killer piece of furniture. When I first saw it I’ve immediately said to myself …I want this piece of furniture, is so cool. You can use this little piece of furniture as a small office, and when you’re not using the chair you can hide it, and nobody will notice it. This idea from Porada is a great solution for small places don’t you think ?

Jessica Helgerson Remodelling a Modern Ranch

29 Apr

Specialized in environmentally sustainable commercial and residential interiors, designer Jessica Helgerson took the challenge of remodeling a once run-down split-level ranch house, into a mid-century modern residence. And I’m telling you it wasn’t easy. They had to “chop down” the existing master bathroom and the kitchen in order to create a bright and airy living room that now opens to a lovely garden. But that’s not all. Every piece of furniture and other vintage finds has been reupholstered and refinished, to follow the new modernish theme of the house. With an amazing contrast between the white furnishings and the little green that adds life, it should be no surprise that we’re impressed with what Jessica has achieved. How about you? – via

The Floating Bed by Falegnameria 1946

27 Apr

Designed by Leonardo Danielli, the Urano bed from Falegnameria 1946 appears to float above the ground with its cantilevered design structure. Built from dark oak and burnished metal, the Urano, designed by Leonardo Dainelli, rests on a thick frame and features a headboard. This unique design is breautiful because is an useful piece of furniture and also an illusion it’s somehow defying gravity. – Via FSB

17 Apr

arne-jacobsen-swan-chairs.jpg

Welcoming and elegant items of furniture: the Swan Chair and Sofa are from Fritz Hansen. Another enduringly classic concept by Arne Jacobsen, the Swan Chair is a comfortable favorite that will never go out of style. Designed in 1958, along with the Egg Chair, the exclusive shape was dreamed up especially for the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. Incredibly, the Swan Chair and Sofa look like they could have been designed just yesterday. The generous armchairs come with star-shaped, turnable center with automatic return. Own a piece of history with the Swan Limited Edition, which comes in swan-white leather with a pearl white base. To verify its authenticity, each Limited Edition chair has its own silver bracelet and pendant engraved with its number. Or try the Swan Sofa out for size… it’s just the solution for stylish living rooms or hallways. On a shaker base, it is a sophisticatedly understated piece of furniture. The Swan range can be yours now and forever… contact Fritz Hansen.

For a more ultra modern appeal, check out the 2009 Rin moulded plastic chairs by Hiromichi Konno, also from Fritz Hansen …
