Jack Thompson (again)

Jack Thompson (again)

It’s been a while since we visited the portfolio of photographer Jack Thompson and to my delight when I stumbled upon his site recently there were many more gorgeous spaces in his repertoire. I am of course featuring some below but as Jo mentioned in her previous post of his work, Jack’s portfolio is filled with all sorts of other fun stuff besides interiors so do go have a peek.

My dream home

25 Oct

Over the weekend my husband was researching Ottawa architects online, and came across one of our favourites, John Donkin (I featured him last year). He found a recently completed home in his portfolio that is EXACTLY what we’ve been dreaming about. We drove by it on Saturday and after picking our jaws up off the ground we managed to snap some photos of it with a cell phone like a couple of stalkers. The exterior is perfect for us – tall and narrow-ish with a huge garage (it is really deep and wide once you drive in) where my husband can hang out and do guy stuff. These folks have a fairly wide lot so they were able to plan for alot of windows on the more private side of the house, which we may not be able to get away with given our narrow lot.

I love that the facade is not made up of 8 different materials in 8 different colours like all the other modern homes going up around Ottawa. (BLEH). The simplicity of it is perfection, and draws your attention to the wonderful details like ALL THE WINDOWS.
Now, I have not really taken a good look at the interior as I am up to my eyeballs in French studies so this post is more about the shape and the exterior but I thought I’d show you the photos from John’s website of both so you can see what this fabulous home is all about (after the jump).

Rob Mills

Lose yourself in Melbourne architect Rob Mills‘ portfolio. From contemporary to heritage to coastal, it will give you an insight into why Australian design is so hot at the moment. It’s about light and space, inside and out, real living and realising aspirations. It’s family and fun, memories and starting new, reformatting and respecting history. You’ll see why on his website.

Mark Seelen + 1

14 Apr

It has been so long since I gave my heart to a photographer and declared my undying love for their work. Must be at least a couple of weeks since I announced my last photographer crush (if you don’t count Kim doing it for me in the last post). Oh how I love Mark Seelen’s portfolio. Shot after gorgeous shot and always an eye for the quirky composition, capturing the richness of the light, the colours. Kim shared his work a couple of years ago but of course the website is updated with stunning shots. The first few here are of Australian artist David Bromley’s Prahran studio and the last is the ultimate OMG music lurve room!

Cia Wedin

Scandinavian modern at its finest. Fabulous rooms and sets created by design journalist and stylist Cia Wedin. White, bright, boho and stylishly relaxed.  Cia ‘s portfolio is a visual treat. No wonder we can’t get enough of scandi homes!

Stellan Herner and the love fest goes on

21 Dec

Fabulous brights and sexy whites. Check! Boho or mid-century modern. Check! Relaxed casual and family stylish. Check! Home of our dreams. Check! It’s Swedish style and it is, as we know, very now, very hot. These shots are just a taste of the portfolio of Swedish photographer Stellan Herner. Don’t you just love that first shot? The green. OMG. Stellan has me drooling with each image. Remember that moody grey Scandinavian dream of a home we featured here? A Stellan shoot. Time to add to the inspiration files again.

Mikael Beckman

10 Nov

Oh my it doesn’t get any better than gorgeous rooms swathed in Svenskt Tenn goodness captured through the lens by photographer Mikael Beckman (these from his agent’s site). Yum! It’s not all Josef Frank colour riots and perfect pewter though in Beckman’s portfolio. Something a little more 70s retro? You’ll find it after the jump.

Down at the end of the garden with Michael Wee

29 Oct

Here it is the end of the week and I’m still lost in Michael Wee’s portfolio. This time I’ve been wandering through the stunning gardens he has photographed. I’m particularly taken by the city backyards. Small spaces, clever ideas and great shots by Michael.

John James

16 Sep

Flights of fancy or is that fantasy? Hand drawn birds fly across a ceiling, carved feet peep from a bathroom vanity, rosy hearts spring from grass. Fun and joy as well as style and substance. Designer John James is a man of many hats though. Not only interiors both quirky and sophisticated by wedding and events design. We don’t usually post weddings on Desire to Inspire (so much interior design goodness and not enough time for anything more!) but I just had to include some shots from John’s portfolio that he kindly shared with us. So elegant yet relaxed. A perfect California vibe! You’ll see all after the jump.
