Beautiful Boxes Made from Repurposed Vintage Circuit Boards

The complicated connections exhibited in circuit boards definitely give way to a medium that’s perfect for futuristic creations. But there is one man out there who is more interested in taking those boards back in time. With an artistic vision and a pair of skilled hands, artist Theo Kamecke is repurposing old circuit boards into exquisitely decorated interior accents. More than just a collage of broken boards, each of Kamecke’s pieces have been painstakingly crafted, drawing inspiration from ancient cultures. With their intricate patterns and polished aesthetic, many of his pieces could be easily claimed as relics of the Byzantine Empire.

HEY NEW YORK CITY!

Summer is all about making a splish and a splash, so if you haven’t made it over to Park Avenue for a dip in one of Macro Sea’s infamous dumpster pools, you’d better get moving because this Saturday the 21st will be your last chance! Commissioned by the Bloomberg Administration for the third annual Summer Streets Fair in NYC, three dumpsters were transformed into makeshift swimming pools exclusively for the public to enjoy. Already in its third week, the guerilla pools have attracted New Yorkers and tourists of all ages, all aching to show off their seasoned swimming skills. We’ve heard tomorrow’s going to be a scorcher, so if you’re down for some fun in the sun get on over to Park Avenue between 40th and 41st before the pools close 1pm! And if you’re still not convinced, take a look at some of our exclusive snaps from last week’s fun-filled pool party!

Michael Cornelissen’s Brilliant Bowls Made From Colored Pencils

12 Aug

Michael Cornelissen, 36 pencil bowl, sustainable design, green design, recycled materials, green interiors, green bowls

Dutch designer Michael Cornelissen has created a beautiful new use for classic hexagonal pencils by arranging them into brilliantly-hued bowls. The pencils are held by a central connector created from laser-sintered polyamide using new 3D print production methods. This leaves you the fun activity of choosing a set of pencils to finish forming the bowl — and if you ever need a writing tool you can simply pluck one from the bowl’s bouquet!
