Contemporary Crumpled Dent Chair by Bla Station

22 Feb

We love the deliberate dimples of the aptly named Dent Chair by Bla Station, which made its debut at the 2013 Stockholm Furniture Fair. Although these contemporary crumpled chairs look beaten up, they have a cool aesthetic that comes in a rainbow of hot hues. If they don’t grab your attention with their trendy colors, they will definitely wow you with their most interesting look and feel. The shell shape is surprisingly comfortable, designed to cup your curves as you settle in for a seat. These stackable seats look great in modern homes and lofts, arranged around your dining table, or all on their own in a living or sitting room. They also make a creative style statement in a studio space or office waiting area. Are they art? Are they furniture? They’re both! Check out the Dent Chair by visiting Stylepark.

Stalking on a Saturday

10 Feb

Cool find!
A few trips to Ikea happening there – student apartment, do you think?
I always think it’s a shame the balcony in small flats like this is attached to the bedroom not the living area. The bigger ones sort this out.

Think it would look pokey with any more stuff in it – can’t really see much space for the ‘stuff’ of life. My shabby old stuff would look terrible in there – you’d need to choose stuff for the space. Could also be very cold in winter – potential to be quite sterile, I think. And the photoshopping is very obvious – that Union Jack tray can’t make up it’s mind what size or shape it is. Grrr.

Looks like it’s one of the side or even back flats. Nice neighbourhood, but it’s on a busy road. I lived in a converted Art Deco mansion nearby – gorgeous place, but bad electrics and damp and goodness knows what else. Happy memories though! Thanks.

Fresh

Drama, symmetry, classicism, modern art, order and sex appeal. Yes an unusual combination but we are talking about the high art interiors of Madrid interior designer Luis Bustamante. A sculptor and painter in an earlier career his interiors are passionate and with an artist’s eye for the balance of volume and shape and colour. Definitely not for the minimalist. High points for me? The black and white luxury of the dressing room, the art and that library! We have been keeping it simple on the blog for a little while. It’s time to step it up.

Design Crew

17 Nov

Got a problem? Need some help? Just standing there shaking your head? Don’t know what to do? You’re not alone. Send us a link to photos of your design quandary and let the Desire to Inspire design crew help you …. that’s you lot … the readers! This week’s email is from Dmitriy who is really keen to help – 2 incarnations of the space, a plan and some 3D sketch ups.

Hi, I am hoping that the Design Crew can help us with our living room. The main wall is at an angle, so the left side of the room is shorter than the right side. Ideally, we would like to create two distinct areas, a sitting area and a dining area, but we are unsure how to do this without breaking the flow of the room. We are not sure what to do with the fireplace, because the way it is positioned, in the middle, seems to really restrict our options. Right now we have two couches and a coffee table on the right side of the room, and we have a console table and a piano on the left side of the room. We have a TV above the fireplace, but this placement does not work very well, because having to look up to watch it is uncomfortable. We have a small dining table in the kitchen, but would really like to have a dining area in the living room. We are hoping the Design Crew can give some suggestions.

Although we like the couches we have, we are open to replacing them if their size and shape are not optimal for our room. Same goes for the console and coffee tables and the area rugs. The only piece we would really like to keep in the room is the piano.

Plan and 3D sketch ups after the jump.

Red Designer Rugs by Nodus

13 Nov

red-designer-rugs-nodus-pompon-1.jpg

Pompon is one of the fabulous designer rugs made by Nodus – it’s a fabulous red with an unusual shape. The design was imagined by Matali Crasset, an industrial designer with a very flavorful collection of projects under her belt. Her experience with varied types of projects shine through in this design. It’s a rug that seems alive, happy and curious – like it’s waiting to expand and grow out to explore the environment. Pompon is made of 100% wool, hand tufted and produced in India. It measures 200cm in diameter and 10-30 cm in height. It’s a striking modern piece, as much a pleasure to look at as to rest your feet upon, I’m sure. Visit Nodus to find out more.
