From Croatia

24 Apr

A reader named Sanja from Croatia emailed the other day with a link to her blog where she frequently features Croatian interiors. I love to see decor from different countries around the world and thought I’d share some spaces from Croatian magazine moja 4 zida that she has featured homes from on her blog. This first loft is located in Zagreb and is the home of interior designer Mirena Skoric. Love the bold turquoise sofa! (Photos: Frane Fabris)

I’m not sure where this next home is located but I LOVE the raw, warehouse-like shell and white painted brick/cement walls. And I must mention the inset patch of hardwood in the cement floor. Gorgeous!! (Photos: Guliver/Inside Photo)

Material Girls Blog

I fell in love with the style of cosmetic heiress Aerin Lauder when I featured the Lauder family estate in Palm Beach last year.  I was very excited to come across her Hamptons home in Wainscott, New York in Vogue.  With the same traditional elegance infused with modern comforts as her family’s home in Florida, Lauder’s country home is lovely and elegant, yet oh so comfortable.  Don’t you just want to dive into that cheetah sofa?  I love the personal touches throughout the home…signed photograph from Grace Kelly to her grandmother, Estee (your home has one of those too, right?), knick knacks from her young sons strewn throughout the kitchen (if you have young children, you know sports equipment and homework assignments become decorator accessories), and a framed letter from her grandmother next to her bed.  The home, like Lauder herself, is effortlessly stunning.

Furniture Friday: Trimmed Out Sofas

Furniture Friday: Trimmed Out Sofas

Tory Burch’s moss green velvet sofa has haunted me (in a good way) for years.  I just love it.  It screams luxury to me.  What I really love is the trim detail.  Although it is “graphic” to trim a sofa like this, it can still be timeless.

Furniture Friday: Trimmed Out Sofas

Palmer Weiss’ version.  Green and velvet? Um, yes.

Furniture Friday: Trimmed Out Sofas

I love the way Sara Gilbane ran the tape trim vertically down the tuxedo sofa.

I just flipped for Christina’s slipcovered settee!

Classic in black & white.  Found via Pinterest.

Inside Outside Furniture: Cabaret by Kenneth Cobonpue

The Cabaret inside outside furniture collection by Kenneth Cobonpue is as dramatic as it sounds! This elegant furniture line is all about comfort, with low- and high-backed easy armchairs, a high-backed sofa, and matching coffee table and end table combo to complete the ensemble. The woven-style seating is a great addition to you inside decor and alfresco living spaces alike, and the tables feature a fabulous “stitched” detail that adds a charming hand-made quality to the collection. The indoors pieces come in the choice of charcoal, plum and sand colors, and for the outside, an equally stylish palette of yellow, silver and pale grey. Encore! For more info on Cabaret, visit Kenneth Cobonpue.

From IDS Toronto

15 Feb

I unfortunately missed out on IDS 12 in Toronto this year (and frankly, every year) but was excited when we were sent these photos. Here’s a bit of info: We wanted to share these never-before-seen images of the BY Lissoni lounge space designed by Piero Lissoni, featured in this year’s Interior Design Show in Toronto. While the year’s unofficial theme may have been bright color, Lissoni’s lounge made a bold statement with a muted palette.  Defying its usual connotations of cold austerity,  Lissoni used shades of white to create a comfortable, inviting space.  Light streaming in from skylights warmly illuminated white walls and pale oak floors.  Lining the walls were bookshelves playfully filled with book spines turned outward, evoking a wood-like feel, while plum, plush seating beckoned visitors to stay awhile. Love the mostly muted colours, the sofa in the last photo, and interesting take on book placement (cool looking but useless in reality if you want to actually read something in particular).
