Monday’s pets on furniture – part 2

17 Jan

If you’d like to send me photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow my basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim@hotmail.com and PLEASE don’t send closeups of your pet!)

The picture I attached is of my cat Aslan (we call him our toy lion) resting on my $20 Craigslist dresser. He’s so big, he almost stretches across the whole thing! Of course, he makes himself at home on every piece of furniture – he is my best decoration!

Hi, do you know how to use an armchair corectly? My one-eye cat Edek lies down on it to jump and chase the second cat, Cymek.

We are a rescue home and are suckers for Golden retrievers. Here ate some shots taken over the past couple months. Youngest is Bella that was in a crate for the first 10 months of her life until she found us and now she has the life!

1 – Elliot (Wirp), Oliver (Pants), myself and their sister Madi all shared a tiny 1 bedroom apartment in the Magnolia neighborhood of Seattle, WA. They were all VERY busy with the goings on of the hens that lived across the street that would break out of their pen. Almost daily, I will find both (HUGE) boys snuggled next to each other on this, my favorite green chair, or atop one of the many pieces of luggage I’ve collected.
2 - A tiny Elliot, aka Wirp stretched out atop of my old 1950′s cream colored sofa.
3 - Elliot + Oliver sleeping on striped vintage bedsheets.

This is my cat, Wilma, on my daughter’s hand-me-down table. (She had to leave it behind when she moved to Hawaii). Wilma randomly picks a spot for hanging out and today it was the coffee table.

This is my Burmese cat, Ellie, sitting next to a bunch of Australian natives on my Blackwood coffee table. She’s clearly fascinated by the flame of the candle.

Remember the fabulous art noveau meets midcentury Scandinavian Tenbosch House? Want more? The interiors were by Michel Penneman. How about his art collector’s apartment? More midcentury classics and gallery walls to die for and I spy my new furniture crush, another Vico Magistretti Maralunga piece. This time the sofa. I think I could just about move straight in. Sigh.

Muted mulberry

8 Nov

Very beautiful, and the bones of the rooms are nice, but all those pillows on the sofa, and the random bowls and pottery on the tables look like an interior designer or stylist placed them – not the natural choices of a lived in house. Overall, wonderful taste, just a bit staged/lacking in personal stuff.

London real estate stalking #2

26 Oct

As promised, here is another Domus Nova property. This time it’s a rental, which is probably good news as I’m not sure how many buyers would be tickled pink to discover red carpeting and a bright orange bathroom. I do love how neutral the spaces are with colour brought in through furnishings. Most people do it the other way around. I think this takes far more bravery. Check out that sofa for example. Surely more of an investment than a can of paint.

Lilly Pulitzer Home Collection

28 Sep

I recently came across the Lilly Pulitzer Home Collection at Horchow, featuring a line of furniture and accents. I had previously seen the bedding line at Garnet Hill, but hadn’t realized there was a furniture collection too! I’m really liking some of the items in the collection – especially the desk and accent chest featured above and below!

Armless Sofas and Chairs by Busnelli – Daytona

30 Aug

These Daytona armless sofas and chairs by Busnelli instill comfort just by looking at them. They are like modern fluffy clouds promising weightless ease. With a soft continuous geometry, the back and hardly-there armrests merge into a single form, which seem to hug the deep seat. Actually the seats are so deep and cozy that these sofas and chairs could almost be considered day beds. The Daytona pieces have a base made of solid wood and sleek metallic powder coated legs in white or black. The spring seating is padded with polyurethane foam and the sofa can be covered with a choice of 100% cotton or quality leather to finish the look. For more info on these unusual armless designs, go to Busnelli.

Stalking an art house in Elizabeth Bay

16 Aug

The exterior may be all Victorian era lacework but the interiors with its limed floors, soaring ceilings, stellar art collection and contemporary classic furniture “screams” (in a very quiet art gallery way) best of the best. It’s private and luxurious with a knowing nod to the must have and covetable without being in your face look at me gauche. I’m stalking in Elizabeth Bay, Sydney. Architect is Virginia Kerridge and the link is here while it lasts. Memo to self …. seriously need those Vico Magistretti Maralunga armchairs. Actually I’d love the sofa as well. I’m such a 70s gal.
