 Log Sofa by Patricia Urquiola

Designed by Patricia Urquiola for the French manufacturer Artelano the Log Sofa features a cushion seat with loose pillows along the backrest and arms, all of which sit on a wooden frame. The backrest has a distinctive beam which wraps around the whole sofa, matching the style of the log series. The cushions all feature sewn details and materials which barrow from men’s clothing. The sofa’s structure is made from solid beech which has been worked and lathed to create the design’s stocky figure. The log sofa comes in a natural varnish and black lacquer finish.

Two Cushions Held in a Metal Frame called Frame Sofa

Two Cushions Held in a Metal Frame called Frame Sofa

Designed by Korean designer Hyung Suk Cho and called the Frame Sofa this piece of furniture consists of two cushions held in a metal frame. The seating is made of stainless steel tubes and fabric upholstery. This design is pretty basic, and I don’t even know what the designer actually designed, because he just took two cushions and put them in a metal frame. Besides being very simple this design is also very uncomfortable I think. So what is your opinion about the Frame Sofa ? Is something that you could also design ? – Via – Dezeen

2010 Interior Color Trends: Coral

10 Jan

2010 Color Trends:  Coral

Coral Pink and White Dining RoomCoral has been coming back in a big way over the last two years – first it was the actual motif – the jagged sea formation.  Now it’s the color – a soft orange tone that is finding a home in many places.  Coral has a very positive energy and is pleasing to the eye for many.  Once thought of as a coastal color, coral has found its place in today’s interiors all over.

Coral is easy to pair with other colors and is very versatile.   Brown gives it a modern feel, with a warm undertone. Purple and coral create a lively, spunky feel.  Shades of turquoise with it provides an inviting mix of warm and cool tones.  White or ivory is always an option with coral for a crisp, clean look.  Yellow or green tones give an exotic edge.

Coral is not a new color for interiors, but rather a rejuvenated one.  It is best used in a well lit area, and can handle a large surface, such as a sofa or rug.  Coral is also a flattering color for most skin tones, and is great for a ceiling, casting a warm glow on the occupants.  Try it on one wall, or one item – you’ll be back for more.

LED Sofas for Funky Interiors

 LED Sofas for Funky Interiors

The Asami Light Sofa comes from Colico, a company with an important design history, founded in 1920.  The first thing that comes to my mind when looking at these photos, is an unforgettable movie-marathon night with friends and a cool home theater system. A little problem might be handling the remote controls, because this item has its own and they just might be one too many. The light colors can be adapted to the mood of the place and of the owner, by a simple push of a button. In the dark, the Asami Light Sofa looks like a real treat. However, the slick design makes them a beautiful asset for the day as well.

Stunning solid wood pieces to bring a natural flair to your home: the credenza and sofa from Francoceccotti will be the center of attention. Designed by Edoardo Petri, an architect, the solid wood furniture exploits the relationship between space, shape and function. The useful Tadao credenza is a type of sideboard with two doors and two drawers for storage. It is ovoid in shape, and crafted from exquisite American cherry or American walnut, with maple interior shelves. The sofa is a truly out-of-the-ordinary piece – the whimsical design looks like it has come from a fairytale! A curving concoction incorporating two seats, a tiny but useful tray/table separates them in the middle. The structure is of solid American cherry or American walnut, the tray/table of glass sandblasted silver. You can choose to upholster the sofa is a range of fabrics to suit your personality. Simply stunning solid wood furniture, from Francoceccotti, made for you.

Sidecar stylish

Sideways console front

What to do with a TV?  Do you hide it away so people will think you're too cool to own one, or just give up and let everyone know you spend your nights in your jammies, curled up on the sofa watching American Idol?

Well even if you didn't already own a big ol' flatscreen, you would probably run right out to get one if it meant having an excuse to own this beautiful console.  Made by David Johnson (aka Sidecar Furniture) of salvaged mahogany and canary wood, the console has a great mid-century vibe, and loving attention to detail.

Console detail

In fact, one of the best details on this piece is one that doesn't even show in day to day use. Check out this thoughtfully designed back panel. With space for wires and cables to run through, and a mesh screen for easy ventilation, the back is almost as beautiful as the front!

 console back

Although this particular piece is a one of a kind, due to the salvaged wood, David is currently working on two new versions using Plyboo Strand Bamboo.  I can't wait to see them!
