Monday’s pets on furniture – part 2

10 Jan

If you’d like to send us photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow our basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. (Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it). And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim@hotmail.com and PLEASE don’t send me closeups of your pet!)

This is our baby Gena and she is ready to take a nap on her favorite sofa.
- Rasa (Chicago, IL)

I send you a pic of Nala and Ulfi on my Ikea Lunna chair.
- Inma (Sevilla, Spain)

Georgie, in Flatiron manhattan on a daybed.
Georgie on a swivel club chair.
It’s Georgie again on his favorite vintage chair

- Lauren

This is where I regularly find Cheeko my Long Haired Chihuahua hiding. He thinks the comfiest spot in the house is on my bed or on top of Winston, our Cavalier King Charles on the couch!
- Clare (Australia)

Attached are 2 photos of my 10 month old rescue mutt, Lyman. I bought this set of vintage chairs and table a few years ago for $50 at a thrift shop in West LA. When I rescued Lyman over the summer, he immediately discovered them and enjoys hanging out here while I am working at my desk.

Then check out these stylish accessories that will leave your cat “scratching for more.” Finally, there is a company that does it right – The Company of Pets.com

They offer a silhouette cat scratcher made of graphite sisal (for walls or floors) and a sisal and manila rope cat scratcher in the form of “chairs” or a canine shaped cat scratcher.  All are made using sisal and manila rope, all adhesives are non toxic.

Now you can go ahead and purchase that new sofa with a little less worry!

Magic Display of Light in Milano: Butterflies by Chiara Lampugnani

7 Jan

“Light Butterflies” by Chiara Lampugnani Design is an innovative project displayed in Paolo Sarpi Street and Canonica Street in Milan as part of the the Milan International Led Light Festival (held from 4 December 2010 until 10 January 2011). Here is some information from the official press release: Inspired by the Butterflies Oasis based in Palestro Street in Milan, the light butterflies by Chiara Lampugnani are an homage to the beauty of Nature through the splendor and magic of light. A message to the city of Milan which is always in a hurry so that it may stop and think about the simple things of life through the eyes of a child. We salute this uncommon project and we consider it to be a great idea of urban regeneration that could be applied in different cities in order to bring streets and neighborhoods back to life.

Pa Sofflocket Kitchen Sofa Knows How to Store Stuff Away

3 Jan

Although strangely named, the Pa Sofflocket kitchen sofa will immediately catch your eye. The Pa Sofflocket is a very useful piece of furniture as it comes with plenty of storage space to meet your storage needs while in the kitchen. The kitchen sofa is more of a bench than a regular sofa and it offers two storage areas underneath the seat and, my favorite feature, a special books and magazines storage section placed in the back of the Pa Sofflocket. This kitchen sofa is made out of Swedish pine with elm wood detailing, and it’s just a concept design for now. Those interested in checking it out can do so at the Stockholm Furniture Fair this February, and those who want to order one, well, they’ll have to wait a while for the Pa Sofflocket to enter mass production, Via Johanna Westin

Mus Modular Sofa Comes With Its Own Pedestal

1 Jan

Well it’s not exactly a pedestal but the Mus Modular Sofa comes with its own base, a platform made out of wood and meant to sustain all those cushions and everything else you’d want to place on it. The platform is large enough to let you store various things, either part of the general interior design or everyday items that you’d regularly have around the couch in your living room. The Mus is going to offer you various elements and can be arranged and rearranged according to your own personal needs. The Mus could even be used as a seating solution in various public spaces so if you’re looking for office furniture then check out this modular design too. Via KOO

Boxing Day reading guide

26 Dec

Thank goodness that is over! I think I ate too much. Hope you had a wonderful day with family and friends, a good nap on the sofa, didn’t eat too much like I did (ha!) and are all relaxed and ready for a reading guide. Settle in. I hear ginger tea is good for over-indulging so maybe a pot to keep you company? Enjoy! (Knitted nativity scene via Scott Weston … rolls off the tongue doesn’t it? “Knitted nativity.”)

Merry Christmas!

25 Dec

Kim and I are so fortunate. Everyday we turn on our computers and do what we love. We share the beauty that we find out there on the web. Beautiful rooms, beautiful homes and in return we have met beautiful people. Dear readers thank you so much for visiting everyday, for your emails, your submissions and your support. To the talented designers, architects, stylists and photographers who share their work a huge thank you. We are in awe of what you create. I wish that was my Christmas tree above but it belongs to Australian architect Scott Weston. (Thanks for the shot Scott and the new work I’ll be featuring next week.)  I ran out of time this year to decorate for the holidays but I can daydream that Scott’s tree miraculously appears in my living room.

I couldn’t make up my mind which image to use for this post. Swedish stylist Mikael Beckman sent this photo of his tree. Outdoors, deep in snow and stylishly simple. I’m daydreaming of this tree too but not miraculously transported into my living room … at least not with the snow. Now if you are reading this on Christmas Day go away, eat turkey, ham or prawns, laugh with your family and nap on the sofa after too much food. I’ll be back on Boxing Day with a reading guide. Might even do one on the other days too. Maybe not. Might be snoozing on that sofa. Merry Christmas!!!

See what Santa got for me (OK I fess up it was I!) on my page. Trouble is they won’t be turning up until after the weekend. Too big to come down the chimney?

Big Fluffy Sofas – Corbeille Sofa by Edra

25 Dec

big-fluffy-sofas-corbeille-edra-3.jpg

We love these big fluffy sofas for their casual-contemporary look and their comfy feel. Forget “less is more”; the Corbeille big sofa from Edra, by designer Francesco Binfare, features fluffy pillows you want to sink into, giving the couch its characteristic look of oversized and luxurious abundance. The frame is made from a weave of metal tubing, which cradles the cushions and you. The frame and cushions are finished in the same color, with the choice of fabric and leather upholstery. For comfort and contemporary style, we love the Corbeille sofa. For more info visit Edra.

My little Italian Greyhound Zoey caught in the act again sneaking on the bed underneath the covers.
- Tracey (Edgewood, Washington)

First is a picture of our 2 year old, 18lb orange baby Rigby in his favorite orange chair. Next is our 8 month old comedian, Magooo, a rescue from the local shelter, lounging on our Ikea bed and duvet. I guess he got bored with our photo shoot and tried to sneak in a yawn. They are the best of friends but it has been impossible to get them to be still on the same piece of furniture long enough to take a picture together.

1. Grey the Min Pin likes to be taller
2. Queen B seeks out sunshine to sit in around the room

- Golfgal

Here’s one from me. This is Edgar on my DIY sofa that I am always covering with something new. This month it’s a kilim rug. I think he approves.
