For today, we chose to showcase 18 exquisite staircases that define and “upgrade” the interior within which they are placed. Delivering “character and soul”, these designs were custom made and achieved after a few serious planning sessions held between the company and the clients. Some of the stairs are transparent and seem to hover over the floors, enhancing the feeling of space. Modern and diverse, these charming models manage to deliver simplicity in its most elegant form.

Designer Dan McCabe describes his “Two Faced” coffee table as strikingly modern and I totally agree. The juxtaposition between the austere stainless steel and ornate silicon bronze frame is very unique. There’s something creepy about it. Can’t quite put my finger on it but it beckons to be touched. Before the fancy Playstations and the Nintendo Wiis there was Tetris and yes I am not ashamed to admit that I was part of that generation. So imagine my excitement when I stumbled upon the Tetris Fireplace by Italian company Horus. Like the game, the idea is to move around the blocks to create an eye-catching pattern and the blocks (so to speak) are available in two striking colors, black and red. Ultra-modern meets down-to-earth – it’s that unusual combination of conflicts which makes this artistic furniture by Riva1920 so unique. In fact, the collection is inspired by the city of Venice, where sea meets land and architecture. The Vice Versa coffee table by designer Thomas Herzog features rustic wood bases (salvaged from underwater and characteristically holey from the life aquatic) topped by clean-cut, transparent glass tops that scream “sophistication!” Circular or round, these great tables will find a home in unusual spaces. The Serena lamp designed by Erasmo Figini too is a meeting of the opposites, where the lamp’s base – made of the same weathered wood – is accented with stainless steel and Murano glass ornamented with flecks of gold. Fresh designs are inspired by looking beyond an area of expertise. This is the case for a beautiful piece of furniture called “The Glissando“. Jon Goulder imagined a credenza that was  musical, so he created the Glissando, which visually mimics the glide from one pitch to another in music. A lot of work went into making these beautiful pieces and there are only 12 of them available. Handmade with attention to every detail, this credenza comes in two versions of colour and material: rock maple or American black walnut. Stainless steel legs sustain the beautifully crafted pieces, but they can be powder coated in colour, for an adventurous feel. It looks splendid, it almost sings out loud through harmony in design, but I bet it`s hard to dust.
