Stalking down on the farm

Stalking down on the farm

The end of the working week at last. You’ve caught me packing a bag. I’m off to my little weekender. Nothing too spectacular. Just a “bijou” 1890 farm in the Mount Macedon area of Victoria. I hope the grass isn’t too long when I get there. It will take me all weekend to mow it!  In my dreams. The ready made fantasy old family farm. I’ll never be able to afford it. I’ll console myself with the idea of avoiding mowing the front yard. Link here while it lasts.

House hunting in the country

House hunting in the country

House hunting sounds so much more “adult” than real estate stalking. Not that I’m looking to bag any houses this particular house hunting season. My bag limit was definitely one and I’m done. Still I seem to be drawn to country cottages and getaway boltholes. In places with fruit trees and hedges, a vege garden, old wooden sheds, quiet country lanes and a well stocked local deli with cheese room and wine cellar just down the road. Perhaps a cafe with a famous, now “retired” barista. Somewhere I can rough it with a cappuccino or some gelati. This cottage might just do me fine. It’s just outside Daylesford in Victoria. A little decluttering, a few more found industrial pieces and a wine fridge. Every weekender needs a wine fridge :P Link here while it lasts.

Stalking in the snow

4 Jul

Winter here in Australia, a land more often associated with sun and surf not winter and snow. Today I’m stalking in the high country of Victoria and the resort village of Dinner Plain. Welcome to Under the Moonlight designed by Giovanni D’Ambrosio. It’s a contemporary (and expensive) take on the traditional cattlemen’s huts of the area.

“Perched on the edge of an alpine reserve in Dinner Plain Village, part of the highest approved freehold land in Australia, the home is located just 10 minutes from down hill skiing at Mount Hotham. Featuring extensive 8 x 9 sq metre glass panels, sweeping alpine views are drawn in to the interior of the home, which also features a 20 tonne cantilevered fire place made of local stone.”

Forget the stone fireplace look at the bathroom! A divan perched beside the spa. Dark and decadent. This is definitely a bachelor’s pad in the snow, no? A sexy private après-ski lair. Glühwein anyone? Link here while it lasts.

Color Punch!

13 Jun

Lately I have been seeing interiors (& fashion!) that are infused with punches of bright, bold colors – loving these bright and cheery colors!

And if you don’t want to go bold on the wall, consider a punch of color with accessories, like this purple area rug.

Even the Victoria’s Secret models look hot in bright colors!

How could they not, right!?

Minimalist and Refined Dining Set: TABBED Collection

4 Apr

http://interiordesignsense.com/tag//

Scott, Rich & Victoria from New Zealand have designed a beautiful dining collection characterized by style, creativity and simplicity. Here is the description we received from the designers: Consisting of dining chairs and matching tables the TABBED collection is a family of products defined by interaction between folded planes of sheet metal and hand finished oak elements. With refined details and sophisticated folds the TABBED collection is an elegant marriage of materials. The designs in the set are available in a variety of natural and stained colour combinations which means they are highly adaptable to a large variety of interiors. Even though our attention was initially captured by the white version of the dining collection, the other color combinations are just as lovely.

Stalking the sand dunes

1 Apr

The ultimate “beach shack”? Nestled in the dunes on Victoria’s coastline at Fingal is this contemporary interpretation of mid century cool. Definitely not your fisherman’s weekend shack unless of course you are head of a fish canning business. Me? I’d be happy just bunking down on the patio and taking baths in the swim tank! For sale here while the link lasts. Thanks Andrea for doing the stalking for me this time!

The dark side

24 Mar

Cool, dark, sexy. Like a cold drink on a hot, hot day. A cave to escape the blaring sun. A shed sitting on a sunbaked Australian plain. A refuge from the harsh elements. A home. Another short listed entry in the 2011 Australian Interior Design Awards, Hill Plain House, Victoria by Wolveridge Architects. I would enter the dark side. Yes for this I would.
