Friday stalking 2

15 Jul

Back for my second stalking post today. This time a one bedroom apartment in Potts Point, Sydney. White and bright with lots of timber and a red Venetian glass light to die for. talk about a statement piece in a small space. A perfect city pad. The little outdoor balcony is a definite asset. I feel the need for more artwork especially in the bedroom but the exposed brick wall adds that funky industrial vibe when teamed with the metal and glass walls. The apartment is in the Yellow House, a well known bohemian artist haunt that has now been gentrified (as is the want with all valuable inner city property these days). Thankfully they kept the famous wall art by 60s artist Martin Sharp. You can just see one peering down the hallway.  apartment. Link here while it lasts.

Contemporary Expression of Architecture: The Stoneridge Residence by Assembledge+

14 Apr

http://interiordesignsense.com/tag//

The Stoneridge Residence was designed by Assembledge+, in collaboration with Billy Rose Design. Renovating the home on Mulholland Drive in Los Angeles took a lot of effort. Having been created as a show home for the Avenues of Art & Design group of West Hollywood in collaboration with Luxe Magazine, the dwelling underwent massive renovation in order to “reconnect the house with its site through large restructured openings and a thorough landscaping effort“. Made from large volumes covered in brick, the residence’s second floor captures a beautiful panorama of San Fernando Valley. An Olympic-sized infinity-edge pool in the backyard balances the exceptional huge glass windows accentuated by dark steel support elements. Wood and stone dominate the interiors of the Stoneridge Residence. A fully functional kitchen on the ground floor and a home cinema vitalize the house with aromas and relaxation. An interesting rippling custom-moulded wall art greets everyone at the entrance. Occupying 2100 square feet on the second floor, the master bedroom suite clearly represents a strong sense of luxury. After you enjoyed every detail of the beautiful show house, please share with us what your favourite element is.

Unusual Wall Lighting with Large Lamp Shades by LM Studio

22 Mar

LM Studio is known for its contemporary oversized lamps, and this unusual wall lighting with large lamp shades does not disappoint. As you might expect from a French manufacturer, these large lamps are both luxurious and chic, yet avoid being over the top. Ideal for the modern home they combine style with substance, the sturdy frames adding to the almost industrial look of the structures. Outstretched, they echo the look of street lighting; fitted to a wall, they could be mistaken for wall art. Lamp shades are minimal, with simple, clean lines and bold colors, emphasizing the unfussy and understated look of the collection. Designed by Matthieu Ongena for LM Studio, the lamps are tailor-made to order and can be specified in any size required. They are available in glass or Plexiglas, with stainless steel or chrome finish frames. For more information visit LM Studio.

Enticing Apartment Combining Vintage and Contemporary Elements

21 Dec

Sometimes, a cosy little apartment is all you need to feel happy at home, especially if the interiors are bright, colourful and personalized with lovely decorations and furniture that combine the vintage look with modern touches. This apartment seen at Stadshem inspires feelings of joy and an artistic way of playing with contrasting elements. White walls support artistic wallpaper, colourful paintings and useful shelves. The mix and match furniture seems to have been perfectly chosen for the apartment, but without the modern lighting and contemporary prints used all over the apartment, the feeling wouldn`t have been the same. Brown, white, green, yellow, red – bright colours and bold shapes turned the apartment into an exciting place to live. The white furniture in the kitchen has mismatched handles that add to the artistic feeling and vintage decorations fill the air with a memorable feeling of respect for the ages.

Hanging on a FOLD

16 Dec

Winter is setting in and one of the biggest concerns is getting towels dry enough for repeated use . FOLD Radiator is a handy solution where you use its bent corners to hang your wet, used towels; keeps them dry and warm. Thankfully it looks nothing like a radiator – easily passable as wall art. Totally want one.

How to Make Light Furniture Brighten your Home

14 Dec

The presence of light furniture in a room can make it feel bright and cheery. The ability to transform a space from dull and closed in can instantly change with light furniture. For some warmer climates, lighter furniture makes the home feel cooler and more inviting. While even in colder climates, wintry whites and creamy neutrals are inviting too. To make your home feel brighter and more inviting, use these tips to see how light furniture can help.

light furn view e1290822175546 How to Make Light Furniture Brighten your Home

  • Make up for lack of natural light: In many homes the lack of windows and natural light sources are at a minimum. Light furniture helps make darker rooms brighter and will help reflect artificial light and make the space feel more relaxing. Lighter furniture can also be paired with darker accessories to add visual interest. Try using darker throw pillows, accent rugs, and varying tones of neutrals paired with the darker colors. The layering of colors allows the eye to not get tired of only one type of tones, visually making your space feel cozy.

  • A small space will feel larger: If your room lacks space, or you want to give the illusion of more room, lighter furniture will help. Consider buying only key furniture pieces, such as select seating and tables to maximize the walking circulation areas in a room. Pair light furniture with reflective surfaces such as glass and metallic’s in tables, accessories and wall art. Adding more reflectivity to your room will make the room feel lighter and therefore more spacious.
  • Use contrast to add visual interest: The combination of light and dark colors in a space is visually interesting and it adds sophistication and style to a room. For a modern touch to your space, use dark wood or concrete floors with light furniture to introduce a strong compliment of materials and colors. Use soft textiles like furry rugs and light window treatments to also help balance between dark, hard floors and light and soft furniture.  If you prefer an edge to your décor, a strong contrast is the way to achieve it.

  • Introduce color: One of the beautiful characteristics of using light furniture is the ability to introduce any color into your color palette. For interiors that want a more subdued feel, use tone on tone versions of pastels and muted colors. To make a statement use a color like red, blue or bright pink paired with beiges, whites, and khakis to tastefully bring in color, without blinding color additions.

light furn pink e1290822723269 How to Make Light Furniture Brighten your Home

If someone told you that you could transform your space with the introduction of one thing, wouldn’t you try it? Light furniture is that one way to make your space feel lighter, brighter and more appealing without even trying. If your space feels washed out by too much light furniture, introduce color filled art work to your walls and artisan art pieces. Often times one or two eye catching pieces are all you need to make light furniture blend seamlessly into your décor and lifestyle.

Freshome reader’s do you have light furniture in your home? What are the pros and cons? Some think it’s too hard to keep clean, while others love the airy feel it brings to their space. What do you think?

How to Make Wall Art the Focal Point of your Room

8 Dec

Have you ever bought a piece of wall art and then realized it can’t be appreciated in the room as you thought? Often time’s wall art is purchased on its own, without regard to how it will look in the room, or how guests will enjoy it when they enter the space. To make wall art the focal point of your room, consider these tips when arranging your room, furniture, and when buying your wall art.

artwork main e1291637716534 How to Make Wall Art the Focal Point of your Room

  • Get inspired: Art work is meant to evoke an emotion and feeling when you admire it. Choose art work that you enjoy and which makes your space tell a story. Sure, the colors and context should compliment your décor as well, but the feeling behind the artwork should come across to be enjoyed by all who view it. Look around your space for inspiration, whether it is the colors, the architectural lines, or the gorgeous ocean or woodland view out the window.  Your artwork should make inhabitants feel part of your space, to become the focal point.
  • Non-traditional artwork: Who says the focal point of the room has to be a piece of framed wall art? You can make wall art be your kitchen cabinets that are outfitted in the latest trend color, or make the fish aquarium that lines your living room wall become your ‘wall art’. Instantly these pieces become the focal point of the room with the use of color, drama, and obviously the live fish are artwork enough!

How to Make Wall Art the Focal Point of your Room

  • Position of the furniture: The direction your furniture sits in your space will help create the focal point you desire. If you have a dramatic red accent wall with wall art, position your furniture directly at it, to bring an unmistakable center stage focal point. Similarly fireplaces, expansive window wall vistas and stone accent walls can be beautiful backdrops for positioning furniture towards to display wall art. Depending on your space, the backdrop may be all the art you need.

artwork red e1291637836913 How to Make Wall Art the Focal Point of your Room

  • Abstract wall art: To bring in another level of attraction, consider using abstract wall art that doesn’t have a concrete theme or picture, but has colors and hues that you love. Abstract art can be a focal point by tying your elements together beautifully. Often time’s abstract artwork will be the glue that marries the textiles, the furnishings and finishes together without you even trying. If you’re having a difficult time in figuring out what the finishing touch of a room is, look to abstract art work, and you may just complete the puzzle.

artwork gray e1291637881766 How to Make Wall Art the Focal Point of your Room

When trying to pull a room together, look to art work to provide the added focal point you may need. Through inspiration, and positioning of your furniture, the art work in your space can become the show stopper. Some people find it easier to buy the art work first and then design their space around it. Pulling color from artwork might be easier than trying to search for the perfect yellow couch! Every one designs differently, find a way to make your artwork work for you and your space.
